[Plugin][$] RoundCorner - v3.4a - 31 Mar 24
-
Hi,
-
I'm running SU on Mac, OS X version 10.6.7 (I have windows at work, works fine on that. I thought this issue was related only to mac, apologies for not mentioning in previous post)
-
Once I shrink the palette it runs smooth enough, tho often I have to clean up edges after the tool has completed the round.
i'm running on an imac intel i5 dual core with 8gb of ram.
cheers

I am still scratching my head where it can come from, why it is only on Mac and why only for Roundcorner (the palette package is the same for other plugins like Curviloft and TOS).
Several Mac users have reported the problem, so there must be a rational explanation.
Still investigating

By the way, can you confirm the follwoing point:
When you start Roundcorner on an empty selection
-
Do you have to wait to see the button palette appear for the first time ?
-
or slow behavior is only when you move the mouse(which refreshes the palette) without clicking ?
-
Or is it only when you select edges that you have the slow behavior?
Also, can you open the Ruby console when you run RoundCorner, in case there are messages displayed.
Thanks
Fredo

fwiw, here's roundcorner on my laptop (15" i7) but it works the same on my desktop (2.66quad macpro)..
[flash=853,510:3hfz6m0m]http://www.youtube.com/v/CFV33Eu8Y6I?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0[/flash:3hfz6m0m]
as you can see, everything works fine.. i used this example because it had so many edges to round but even then, it only took 6 seconds.. a simple box is basically instantaneous..
also, orbiting etc. works fine as well when the palette is up..
i wish i could make roundcorner work not so well in order to help find a solution but i've tried literally 100 different things to mess it up and i can't do it..

Jeff,
Apparently the issue of performance appears for some Mac users, not all.
And also, it seems to be related to the selection mode , not to the generation of geometry. I understand that it is related to the display and refresh of the button palette.Fredo
PS: on my slow laptop on XP, your model takes less than 2 second to round, with 6 segments for rounding.
EDIT: if the Arc curve is exploded, then it takes around 7 seconds, like in your video -

that reminded me of some issues with the Render[In] plugin.. (though it affected both macs & pcs)..
basically, normal SU selection was hit very hard and would take minutes to select instead of instant..here's the thread on that:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=31401i'm wondering if another plugin could be causing this?
can some of you with the roundcorner/mac problems post the contents of your sketchup plugins folder? (and maybe the tools folder while you're at it?) -

Hi Fredo,
If I have the palette minimized from the previous time I used it, there is no lag(the little palette in the top left pops up straight away).
However if the palette was open the previous time, it takes a minute or two to appear. From there(with the palette open) the tool is slow in everyway. When I move the cursor over a part of the model, it does not change colour depending on what type of edge/face you are selecting(like it does on windows), even moving the cursor is not very responsive. If I then decide to select an edge without seeing the colour change on the cursor, i could wait maybe 1 to 2 mins to see the selection highlighted. Its not workable at all.
Unfortunately, I've only bought a Mac recently and I am unsure how to bring up the rubyscript thing you mentioned, maybe some1 could explain??
Thanks for your help.

Please, PLEASE help me here. I'm trying to round edges on a cube but I never get any green lines to show where it's going to round, and if I press enter anyway my model just completely explodes everywhere, turning into a mess of whatever. Can anyone give an idiot some simple instructions?

Watch the Offset value (indicated in the button palette). It may be either too big or too small relative to your cube.
