      Hehe... Me too.

Really cool image (I too have to play around with Vue but I guess it'd take me awhile to get where you are at). ๐Ÿ˜’

Anyway, "special thanks" for the image's aspect ratio; when resizing it to fit to the TDC article, it came out exactly as needed for the style sheet (480x270)
(I hope you don't mind me posting it there) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks y'all and cheers Csaba on the Catchup mention.

I need to work on my dust particle animation skills before even attempting the animation, anyway I did another rally image.

great images! not perfectly realistic, which i think suits skp more ๐Ÿ‘

small crit: the wheels on rally car would probably be turned more to the camera, the dust suggests its turning adn the normal path to follow would be between the dunes

Fantastic images. The only issue I have is with the Bigfoot image. I just don't see what the flying insect adds to that picture.

Its a device to help bring the viewer into the scene. And with any device (sunset skies, for example) it needs to be done in such a way that it brings the viewer in, but does not distract/detract. I like the bug, but it might be too visible. Perhaps it is close in the foreground? It is the only thing that is about 5 feet (1.5m) from the camera. The ground seems to be cut off about 15ft (4m) from the camera. Maybe the bug just needs to be pushed back a little bit.

Or maybe not. Maybe its just fine where it is. It doesn't really bother me that much.

What do you use in both pictures for the grass and sand? Is it geometry? texture? both? Is it part of VUE or part of your sketchup model?

Halroach, it's all geometry, no images used.

All done in SU (except trees), only rendered and textured with Vue, the grass and plants are created in SU and used as an ecosystem in Vue. The ground is a node based texture with slight displacement.

...I always wonder how to make good renders, but maybe its not something a person can learn - or is it? What goes thru your head when creating a render scene? Composition, lighting, shadow effects? Is there a place with tutorials where I can learn this skill/art?

                                            Marcus.

Tough one to answer, knowing the ins and out of a rendering app is paramount, but that is just a portion of a good render. I'd like to say it takes a bit of skill and lots of practice.

I have many failed renders, many bad models, the trick is learning from your mistakes, learning from the masters and most of all enjoying what you do.
