Saving and organizing Components

Hi,
I'm having a horrible time saving components.
I need step by step in saving them, and creating folders to organize them.When I create a comonent, there's no option saving it anywhere or for a folder, so I don't know where it's saved.
When I 'save as' and name it, I can save it to any file (that shows up on the components dialog box, and it won't show up.
I've been able to save to another folder I create, but doesn't save the name. The name is always "group#9" for everything.SketchUp 7, Mac OS 10.5.6

Not sure about Mac's but on a PC what you do works. You select the component in SU then right click, save as. From there you can go to any folder, or make one, or rename one, and save your component. To start, in SU's component folder, I made one with my name, and started by saving stuff there.

(honoluluDT beta me but...)You can always right click on a component and "Save as" from there. Also, when you've made a component, you can simply drag and drop it into any folder in your component browser's secondary window to save it for further use. You can even save a whole collection of components as a library when you have a bunch of them in your model.
I can't give you screenshots since I'm on a PC but it should basically work the same on the Mac.

........Thx, that worked... fairly well. I find it awkward to add a new folder, as there's nothing intuitive in the components dialog box, and I've got to search where to put the folder. Unfortunately, the components are stored in AppSupport/Library/ etc, which is a pain. Any shortcuts?
Also, once I get the component saved, how can I edit it (Glue to....cut opening, etc) as the options are greyed out?

I strongly recommend saving custom components under "My Documents" rather than Sketchup's component directory. Why? Because if you backup your computer regularly, chances are, you only backup a few folders like "My Documents." Placing all your custom Sketchup materials and components there makes it easy to copy all your critical "user generated" files to another hard drive or DVD.
I use this structure:
"My Documents/My Sketchup/My Components"
"My Documents/My Sketchup/My Materials"Sketchup allows you to "log" your custom directory by using the menu option "Open or create a local collection" in the components browser.

On the PC at least, I can right click on a component in the Component browser and select "Properties" - which will launch the same dialog as you get when creating components (so you can set these features).
Unfortunately, for a reason I could never understand, this is not available in the "simple" right click/context menu in the modelling space.

That can be a valid point (unfortunately I'm so messy that I keep everything scattered all around my HD)

Does one of you know why, for components downloaded from WH, sometimes right-click save component is offered, but many times is NOT offered? And how to save it locally nonetheless?

Forget it, I figured it out
Those then AREN'T components yet but groups, lol.
So: Right-click Make Component first, then it can be saved normally
