      Hi

I can draw lights (as basic as long tubes) however is there a way of telling SU that it should actually give light out?

I am willing to bet you cant, however is there a plugin that will do it (so point to an object that IS a light and tell it to throw light out)?

Ive been designing a garage and need to know the lights will work with no shaddows.

      Many Thanks
      Ashley

        Hi Ashley,

In SU, the only light source is the Sun. There is no artificial lighting at all. There are several plugins that will allow you to export your model to an external rendering applications OR are integrated into SU to the point you don't even need to leave SU to render them. There is also a plugin which will change your SU model in a way that it looks rendered with artificial lights (and more) thus allowing you to export images/animations straight from SU.

It's just too broad now to give any suggestion as some of these apps are free while others are commercial and their features can also vary a lot.

Hi, thanks i did think this, where is the best place for "stable" plugins, as i am only on basic i didnt think i could "export" anything.

I dont want anything to spectacular so a plugin might be a good idea, not sure how good they are though.

          Many Thanks

There is Podium (commercial but with an Eval version with 500x500 pixel output limit). This works fine from within SU.

Then there is IDX Renditioner which - similarly to Podium - works within SU, is commercial but also has a trial version with image size output limit (640x480)

Finally there's LightUp which works a bit different; you "change" the whole model into a rendered one and export only afterwards (Adam, the developer may correct me on this "brief description" - I haven't used it yet though planning to try out for sure). Also commercial - with a time limit but (AFAIK) fully functional trial version.
