      Hi all,

I'm creating a model of my current house, because we are considering several different options of how to change the space by knocking down walls etc.

What's the best way to have a model where I can cycle through several different options?

It would be great if I could knock down a wall in one layer only, so that when I hid that layer it hole went away, but it seems from what I can tell that I can't make structural changes to walls in a specified layer. So is there a better way to do this? I'd prefer not to just save a bunch of different files, because I'd like to be able to easily cycle through them when talking to people.

      Thanks!

      Sam

        Hi Sam,

Combine layer visibility with scenes.Make sure your workflow is this:

        1. separate what should be separated with groups (layers won't separate geometry).
        2. put version 1 of say a wall on layer 1, set it visible (but turn off version 2 - see below) and add a scene.
        3. now insert version 2 of the wall, put it on layer 2, make it visible but hide layer 1
        4. again, add a scene.
now when you switch between scenes, you can once see version 1 then in the other scene, version 2. Obviously there may be several things (like floor) that are present in each verion - they should have their own layer but always visible.

Something like this - except that I made it to present different textures but presenting different geometry works the same way. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=3168ed68fce69cf154cbada1da0df134

You can even play with scenes in Google Earth: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=569332372733870556fd3af0ddd0a84f
