Wardrobe for New Baby
-
Hi guys,
spent last few evenings designing wardrobe for my first child who arrives in July. I've a woodworker who'll build it but before i submit plan i'd like ye to take a look and offer opinion or even improvements. The lady boss ain't too happy with the depth of drawers but i think the baby will fit it there ok!!!!!

Hi Rich,
I think that would be nice but I'd put some air holes in the drawer fronts for baby.
I would make the bottom of the upper cabinet flush with the bottom edge of the door openings. I'd make the drawers a bit shorter front to back so they don't poke out through the back panel. You might consider three drawers instead of two. Make them graduated heights with a shallow one on top for small things like stockings and hats.
Check with the "lady boss" to see what she has in mind for the shelves on the right. Is she planning to keep things in little plastic bins or anything like that? Make sure the shelves are sized to allow the bins to fit nicely.
By the way, you might want to purge the unused component, 2 unused materials and 29 unused styles. This would reduce the file size dramatically. I did that and got the file down to 95.3 Kb.

Hi Rich,
Wardrobe looks great. I will comment on use rather than construction. I have 2 kids and have built 0 wardrobes. I echo Dave's comments re: 3rd drawer a small upper drawer would be handy.
Not sure how you are thinking of how the shelves on the right will work. It would be handy to be able to change the shelf heights as your needs change no idea what the products or methods are called that let you do this ...
The section on the left for hanging clothes looks big for a new born - 3 year old you may want to consider adding a shelf at the bottom that could be used for toddler years and removed when the clothes are big enough to warrant it.
In thinking down the line not sure if there is anything that you could do now that would account for your child opening and smashing fingers in the drawers when they start to crawl and cruise around. My el cheapo solution in the 'Tupperware Drawer' in the kitchen is chucking a 2x4 on edge behind it so it won't close. You may want to ask the builder to have something that you can anchor the top with so it won't topple. Eventually you'll want to train them to climb in their drawer at night by themselves, don't want the thing falling on them as they climb in.
Post your final design would love to see it.
