I'm not on top of the term used.

These are stone profiles which project.
I'm not sure what this means.

BTW again your right corner would never return dead in the corner of the building so I am convinced the return is 90 rather than 45 or so exactly like you did first time.

Return? Where the outset wall meets the original wall? I didn't intend changing that from the WIP model, which does 'return' before the corner. It was just the quick draft. (If I understood this right...)

Railing to ground floor needs to go further to front of the left piece so that it allows railing to go past right piece and than return 90 to the corner.

        Gotcha! Nice observation. πŸ‘

They are decorative and not really gothic...but than again the building looks more Victorian play of Gothic than true excersize in style.

I'm not surprised that style clashes. Sketcher isn't an architect.
Do you know of any city's or building that'd be nice reference inspiration for further detailing?

Now that looks much better. It is difficult one to pin on any city. I would think if the sketches are done by Terry or his mate they would probably reference what they know. A lot of town halls are doen in Gothic revival in England.

Ah, the balcony sticks further out. That would explains why the left side doesn't look deeper than the right.
                Thanks Sepo.

Can I assume you're an architect? (They are usually good at spotting these things.)

I think Ankh is based quite a bit on old London.

The sketch is from Stephen Briggs map.

..., so I began browsing through books of all the UK's main walled cities. I found one which fitted my requirements (Its name being withheld to prevent civil lawsuit)

This is talking mainly about the street map structure though. But I'd think the illustration, which also came from the book, might be inspired from the same books.

Gothic revival is more likely as that size of houses were not known in London in middleages AFAIK

Thanks. Unfortunately I haven't got much references to similar architecture in Norway. So I can't just take a walk around sampling inspiration. But I can use the internet of course if I only know what I'm looking for.

Going to London next week. I'll bring my camera and drop by the old town. Should be some there I expect.

There is very little of what you presumme is old London. A lot of went in big fire and lot was replaced in 1r8 th and 19th century building booms. But yes internet could be a good source.

remember Ankh Morpork is also a mashup in time - In Thief of Time it's pointed out that when the first Glass Clock shattered time, AM was not put back together properly... hence the Dysk (Shakespearean styled) being across the road from the Opera House (Phantom of the Opera styled)..when the Opera House is older than the Dysk...

Not that I am aware of but than again I am not a specialist in Gothic architecture. It is some sort of apron. Some people say the purpose of it is to throw water away from windows under. Let me quickly sketch it.

Well, should be some gothic revival styles. And in any case, I'm planning on modelling more Ankh buildings, which will be in different styles. So I'll just sample as broad as I can.

I'll be around from 21-28th April.

Yes, the styles in the city would be different. But you'd expect the each building to have each their style, not a mix of many. (unless it's a large building which has been rebuilt.)

You could also argue that Discworld styles have evolved differently. But it's easier to base it on the real world.

I find it a bit odd to see these things over gothic windows. Can't remember noticing things like that. I think I might ignore them.
