I can't get some old files I was working on to open. One model was made in SU6 and the other in SU7. I'm using the free versions.

I can get the older one that was made in SU6 to open in SU7, but only barely and it handles very slow. The one created in SU7 may or may not open and then freezes the application.

Here's the frustrating part... they are the only two models I've ever completed.

      What's going on?

I dont suppose you left shadows on, or all layers on? it might be SU trying to do all that on loading the file that is slowing it down.

Yes, but that wasn't a problem before.

          Caveat: I changed video cards.

Which card have you got now?

Got the latest drivers? tried turning off openGL(as a diagnostic measure)?

Great suggestion! I would not have thought of that. Is this a "sometimes" issue?

Video card is an Nvidia AGP 6200, DDR 2, 256meg, new.

I turned off most of the options, but could not find the OpenGL switch.

This seemed to help. I was able to open the files and work with them after a few minutes of waiting. I guess this is for the file to load completely?

Remus, thanks for your help. I was afraid I would have to rebuild those files. It wasn't the work, as I need more practice, but the thought of losing my very first projects.

              Thanks again.

Sorry, when i said 'openGl' i meant 'hardware acceleration.'

The next thing to do is to look for new drivers, this could fix a lot of your problems. After youve got the latest drivers (and if its still not working) have a play around with different combinations of 'hardware acceleration' and 'fast feedback.'

Great suggestions. Right now, I'm happy I can open the files and work with them at all!

                  Cheers!
