Hi, there are a couple of useful right click menu items for components that seem to be under-utilized. "Reset Scale", Reset Skew", and "Scale Definition". But "Reset Skew" is always greyed out. Has anyone ever been able to actually get a group to become skewed so that option is available? Anyone know a set of repeatable step to skew a component (NOT using a ruby).

Here is what the help docs say about it:

      @unknownuser said:

A component can become skewed when you scale the component in multiple directions. You can reset both a components scale and skew using the 'Reset Scale' and 'Reset Skew' context menu items.

I've tried scaling in all sorts of directions but so far I've been unable to ever skew anything. Any have any ideas?

Hm. I haven't even noticed that menu item... 😒
Now just tried to scale to every possible, crazy ways and it didn't become active to me either.

Gaaah... I've noticed it, but I've never given it a second thought... ...but now I do!

but I did notice another item, right below: "Scale Definition". That could come in handy. Especially for those times I scale a component up x10-100 times in order to do small details live rounded edges.

          Aaaanyway!
          "Reset Skew"... hmmm.....

Ahah! I just remembered something which my colleague reported regarding the FreeScale plugin: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=16021&p=125597#p125597

So I tried replicating what he did to get the weird component axis...

But I have no idea how to do that with regular SU tools. Maybe it's one of them things that aren't exposed via regular SU tools. Like camera Aspect Ratio...

Hey, that link you gave Thom got me thinking and.........I got it to work!

              Make a box.
              Turn it into a component.
Edit it and select the raw geometry and make it into a component too. Now you have a component inside a component.
Now use the rotate tool on the inner componeont. So you are rotating the componeont inside the outer componeont.
Exit component edit mode. You should now be outside both components. Now scale the box from one of the side edge handles (not a corner handle or a face handle). And scale non-uniformly.
Now go back into the outer componeont and select the inner component. It should be skewed and the option to reset skew should be visible.

Finally I can stop thinking about this. I've tried to get it to work before and I never could get it.

BTW: Rest scale and scale definition are both VERY useful and something I rarely hear anyone talk about. But they are great for what they do. Reset skew seems very limited in its use, but now I know what its for if I ever skew things I don't want skewed.

Thanks Chris (yet I still don't know what I could use it for) 😄
