Hi Mike,
Thank you for reminding!
Joking aside; true, it is indeed encouraging for others who devote their time and energy to selflessly share their knowledge and help others for free. Most of the time saying "thank you" is an "award" not substitutable by anything else.

I have to admit that I'm quite poor at replying to other peoples posts.
Unless I can say something constructive I tend not to say anything, I don't like just typing 'Good job' or 'Well done' etc. because they invariably don't reflect the effort/work by the original poster....So I don't type anything....Weird.I'd love it if we could award stars (like iTunes), that way I could show my appreciation without the need for a 2 word post.

Or a simple thumb up. I've seen star rating systems on various sites, and they rarely get used properly. Usually just the two extremes, all or none.

First of all... Thanks for bringing this up, Mike...!
Although this should be common sense and something that applies everywhere, far too many users seem to forget about this...I tend to agree with thomthom... I don't believe a voting system would be the solution...
The person posting the question should always pay a little gratitude with a small "thank you" note, if someone else have taken time to reply with an answer...
Or... Treat others like you expect them to treat you...

Hi Paul,
I totally understand your not typing the 'Good Job' or 'Well Done' etc after reading a post. I am talking about members that post questions, then get comprehensive answers, often with time taking models etc and then saying nothing.
I realise that some of these members may well PM the helping member and thank them and that is good but I think a simple 'thanks' or on the topic would not go amiss and set a good example.

Also, if you ask a question, then work it out yourself, it'd be very nice that the person posted the solution so that others that come across the post with similar problem can benefit.
-
That makes sense Thomas

It's truth. Thanks to reminding. Even a small smile encourages !

Only a little thing but it bugs the hell out of me;
Somebody posts a topic that says "Help urgently needed!!!".
Plenty of people respond with possible solutions but we never hear from the original poster again. What happened to them? Did everything go well or did they die with worry? -
Come on, Jon, we all learn a lot from these posts and have fun in the mean time! Who loses anything if not the poster?
But yes, sometimes I also wonder what may have happened... -

Yeah, maybe the poor sods got the sack
-
LOL. Sacked, shot, ran away, whatever. They could at least let us know.
-
i think people that ask questions should have to post their address. that way if they don't respond when answered we could go visit them and explain the error of there ways. maybe even model them a fish to sleep with. or a horse head for their pillow.
WAIT, i forgot SU dosn't do organic very well. never mind.
-
Right xrok1 your the ideal candidate, that's going to be YOUR job so you better get busy modelling fish and horse heads
