Can anyone advise me as to how I export my models from SU 7 to SU6. I can't take the crashes anymore.
      Thanks

Yup, do a "Save As" and in the save as filetype box, pull that down and choose version 6. You can save all the way back to SU 3.

You experience more crashes in SU7 than in SU6?

I've heard lots of similar complaint about Macs crashing. Lousy unstable OS to blame if you ask me 😄

Yeah... Especially these too frequent and untested OS updates like 10.5.6
(Unlike the most stable and user friendly Vista no-one has any problem with)
                🤣

                Sorry Dale - I couldn't resist...

Hell I don't mind. I have been cursing Mac, SketchUp, the project I'm working on, etc etc etc.
Yes the crashes and freeze ups (featuring the soul scorching Mac spinning beach ball of death) became unbearable yesterday afternoon. Previously I was experiencing mild versions of the same on a big project I was working on, but I put it down to the fact that it included a 3d site tin, with lots of footprints cut into it, and housing units with lots of green elements like roof top gardens with vegetation etc (all on separate layers turned off, shadows turned off, working in monochrome)
But yesterday I was starting a residential models lower floor, really simple, and I crashed 3 times, and froze up twice, and really wasted a lot of time.
This never happened in SU6 to me. The Mac simply doesn't crash on me in any other application.
I love and use SketchUp all the time, and have owned licenses since @last developed it. It is the software that brought fun back into the design process for me. Yesterday was back to the old frustrated CAD bloatware stress.

I'm really sorry to hear that (and I wish I could help). In fact, quite a number of Mac users seem to complain about SU performance but then another bunch have no problems at all. It would be really good to know what the reason is.

I have had some real eye opening discoveries in the last little while trying to figure out why I'm having these problems. I don't have time to post right now as duty calls at work, but I will update as soon as I can.

If you have seen my last few posts where I was really frustrated at the Mac crashing. Yesterday I had a epiphany and started to explore models that I have made since the problems started. Previous to buying SketchUp Pro 7 I had no problems on the Mac at all, I can't even remember the last time it froze or crashed before this problems arose. As it turns out the timeframe matched exactly when I started to directly import dxf/dwg's from ACAD, Vectorworks, and Softplan to use as the basis for the models I needed for my work projects..
Yesterday I went into an old model to steal some window components and cut and pasted them into the troublesome model I was working on. The mac froze for about 10 minutes, but I decided to ride it out, and when the old beachball stopped spinning my component window  was chocked full of strange objects (no offence to Sang).
I went into my model info browser, and found an extremely high number of component instances and definitions.
Upon further investigation I found that although my imported dfx/dwg were exploded before export to Sketchup and basically, 2D drawings I was using to get window and door locations, the Vectorworks export had still brought all of the Windows, doors, etc into SketchUp as components, and in essence they were full of nested components, even though in SketchUp they were flat line drawings.
So I deleted my dxf layer, purged unused ( Window/Model Info/ Statistics/Purged Unused) went back into Vectorworks, converted the whole works to lines, making sure that each window had been converted, exported that dxf back into SketchUp, and I have had no problems ever since, even back in SketchUp 7 (with the new update) I'm not sure yet what this means in ACAD, and Softplan or for that matter other other Cad programs, but I will be sure to make damn sure the are totally exploded before import to SU.
Today has bee a joy for modeling. Hope this prevents others from suffering.

                        Cheers

mmm... I've had quite a few issues with imported DWG from AutoCAD or other applications. (blocks with origin point far of would make the blocks, converted into components in SU jitter and do all sorts of weirdness.)

My workflow for importing DWG is:
Copy only the required data to a fresh new DWG file.
                          Then Purge in AutoCAD.
Open a new instance of SketchUp, import the DWG, delete unwanted garbage the import brought along
                          Purge the SU model
                          Copy to the working model

That normally get rids of most problems.
