Intercept Mystery
-
I want to cut a hole in a face where an item, say a box, goes through it - so I do Intercept With Model. This gives me a rectangle where the box met the face, just like I want. Sometimes the face is cut like I'd expect and I can select and delete the hole. However, sometimes the lines are lying on top of the face and the face won't divide. I can't figure out why it works sometimes and only sometimes. Frustrating! - Joel

On the occasions when the lines just sit on the face without cutting, is it possible that the object you're intersecting is a group or component? You can't get a complete mutual intersection between two objects unless they're in the same context, meaning they're either in the same group or component or none at all.

an example file would be very helpful

Intersecting grouped geometry will behave differently from simply intersecting ungrouped geometry. Try experimenting. The behavior of lines "just being on top" usually happens when you deal with grouped geometry.
