i personally don't find the podium documentation too good and would like to start a place to ask questions about it. (i know they have their own forums but i'm here... and so are you.LOL)

so i'll start. is there a way to reverse the direction of bump maps without taking them to PS and inverting them? something like "name_bump-2" , which incidentally i tried and it does not work.

PS feel free to leave any podium tricks you have up your sleeve, here. 😉

sorry, but you will get much more info at the podium forum. there you will discover that there is good documentation available. i suggest you make your questions there. this is a sketchup forum, do not forget it.

          Hi xrok1,

I can see your point about some Podium discusion. It makes a certain amount of sense remaining in a single forum to discuss SketchUp and related applications. Maybe we should talk some more about this?

          Mike

Try adding a ground plane, also adjust shadow tones with 'Dark' slider in Shadows drop box (The Light slider does nothing in podium)
Another option is experimenting with backround tones, as that effects renders.

There are many free .xml presets available on the podium frum for different render types.

                here's another question or observance:

default light no shadows, no use sun for shading
                default_light.jpg

default light with shadows, no use sun for shading
                default_light_shadows.jpg

default light with shadows, and with use sun for shading
                default_light_shadows_use sun.jpg

my question is, how can i achieve the nice lighting from scene1 with the nice shadows in scene3. does anyone know what the Light/Dark settings should be, or what SU default Light value is.

there seems to be some sort of ratio between light and dark i just can't put my finger on.

solo, wow 😲 you just blew my mind, thankyou. i couldn't believe the light slider didn't do anything, so i set out to prove it to you, then i discovered you're absolutely right. boy did you ever make my life easier, i've been tweaking and tweaking light to dark ratio's forever LOL. i'm sure glad i started this thread it changed my rendering life forever. thanks again.

                  i do think i found my setting.Dark=4:

any advise on the negative bump issue? i discovered you can reverse faces but its not really feasible.

these are from Podiums site: bump_sample.zip

                  original bump.jpg

this one has the bumpmap inverted in PS:

BTW, is there any way to soften reflections?

PS its too bad the lighting dosn't work like you'd expect, light controls overall brightness and dark controls contrast of shadows.
