If this was previously covered or asked just send a link. I'm new to Sketchup and its a great program but on my last laptop and my current one whenever I use the move tool the program freezes and says "Not Responding". My new laptop is pretty stout, good graphics card, Ram over 4G's. After about 10 seconds Sketchup re orients itself and continues on. This is the only lag I have. Any help and advice would be great.

        Hi Eric,

To make sure it's not a graphic card problem, try the following test: go to Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings and disable hardware acceleration.

If it seemsto solve the problem, don't leave it there (unless you can't find a better solution like below) because it may slow SU down considerbly.

What you need is to update your video card driver (provided it is really a good card at all with full OpenGL support). Then try to enable HW acceleration again.

Graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600) had full OpenGl support. I disabled hardware acceleration and Sketchup did slow a bit, either way opengl is set its working now. Its odd it only does it every now and then irregardless of how big or small a file is being worked on. I downloaded the control software ATI puts out for my graphics card and tweaked the 3d settings. If it comes up again I'll just keep tweaking until the move button is smooth. Thanks for the help Gaieus.

If you have the control SW (Catalyst, I guess), make sure that you set "Antialiasing" (and maybe "Anisotropic filtering" - whatever it means 😕 ) to application controlled (see attached).

Note however that the control centre will not substitute an updated driver so indeed make sure your driver is updated. On the other hand, this machine at work has been the second one I have had Ati card on and neither have been really perfect with hardware acceleration on (although thank God, I haven't had display problems with them either).
