Groupbytextures.rb

seems it does not work on V7
Any ideas Rick?

For some reason (which I will try to figure out later), G/Cs are not exploding as expected. If you run it a few times (# of times to run = # of levels of nested groups), it will eventually get everything grouped correctly.

Thanks Rick, it is quit useful for me when I'm working with a 3d firm who wants to have the model in groups for every texture. Seems a lot easier for them to make a finish.
If I run the script the groups and components explode all as expected but they do not regroup by materials. That's why I asked if it works in V7.
( For exploding I can use the bomb.rb but for grouping by materials I need the script )

could this be because the material is applied to the group and not at the face level?
-
No, I tried it with simple boxes and just one face on every box. Can you confirm this or does it work for you?

i can't seem to replicate this, can you tell me what you are doing to cause the problem

Strange. I tried it, and it grouped everything without a problem. Please try running the script while the the Ruby Console (Window>Ruby console) is open, and see if any error messages appear. If so, copy and paste them here and I will see what is happening.
Or if you can email me the model, I will look at it.
Thanks,

This is what comes out:

Just a guess - try purging unused materials, and see if that fixes the problem. If so, then I have an easy fix.

You're right, now it works. But I have to delete Sanchi (?) as well. With him it doesn't work.
