This forum came up when I was searching about bug splats related to exploding components. I found a solution to the bug splats I was getting with my own plugin and maybe it will help diagnose the problems people are having on this forum.

        Assume the following component structure:

        Component_A

        Component_AA
        Component_AB
        Component_AC

I was exploding from the top down with a recursive function, so I would explode Component_A, using ComponentInstance.explode which returns an entities object containing what was the component before I exploded it. I would then loop through that entities object and continue exploding any component instances I found. When I'd try and explode the first child (Component_AA) I would bug splat.
I found that it had to do with an entities observer that I had at the model level (which was my only entities observer). Once I got rid of the observer my code started working fine; no more bug splats!

So maybe Zorro2 or some other plugin on the computer of people who are experiencing bug splats is using an Entities Observer.
Hopefully this helps someone out there and hopefully this was the right place to post this.

I have problems as well, I have managed to cut my model after exploding everything and then making one big group, then it does the slicing but it doesn't delete anything afterwards? it's like it only creates an intersect with model line at the section plane? 😞

                  Hello!

I'm mac user too, generally when you download a ruby file (.rb extension) from Safari the program add .txt extension to the file, you must delete the .txt extension to the file and to leave the filename so: Zorro2.rb
Example: *******.rb.txt (delete the last extension .txt) >> ********.rb
Then, place the Zorro2.rb in your plugins folder of SU, perhaps OSX ask you for permissions to copy the file in the plugins folder, enter your user password and OK.

I hope that help you, Bye!

When I click to download it, it is opening in text edit, so I re-save to my plugins folder with the .rb extension and it isn't showing up. Should I be saving differently? I really can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for your help so far!

Awesome plugin. Works great with the section plane and with the straight zorro tool.

I was getting bugsplats when I used the section plane (on very simple models). De-activated another plugin (openstudio), and now it works fine.

Also when using any tool that changes the models entities with instances you need the Outliner to be closed or at least rolled-up - otherwise a known bug in SUp can cause it to crash...

No dialogs open (including Outliner). I even tried disabling Dynamic Components, Sandbox Tools, Solar North, and Photo Textures.

I'll try again tomorrow after a fresh restart. By the way, same results on SU7.

Split at section cut seems to work. Just cut tool that crashes.

No ruby console messages before the crash, but I realized that I wasn't using it correctly. When I used the cut tool I was picking points at the edge of a cube, and I thought I had to pick 3 to define a plane, vs. just two. So here is how I made it crash.

                                    • draw a rectangle and extrude to a box
                                    • select the Zorro tool
                                    • click on one of the top edges of the box
                                    • next click on the opposing side
                                    • now click on the same point as above
                                    • and last, click on the bottom edge on the same side of the box

screen shot just before crash (when I click at the cursor)

This crashes it for me. I have a screen shot of what it looks like before the click that causes the crash. There doesn't seem to be anything special about where on the edge of the box I draw my cut lines for the crash to occur. When I use to tool as intended, single cut line beyond the geometry, then everything works fine.

By the way, what would be really cool new feature for Zorro for me is to have the "slide model at section" create separate groups out of the trimmed parts vs. throwing them away. Could have the new groups named something like "mygroupname_cut". An extra cool feature would be to create the plane at the cutting edge so the new groups are still solid. This would kind of be the anti-outer shell, allowing you to split a volume into two. Even with SketchUp Pro this would still be a useful tool. Right now I can't draw a section plane and split into two groups. I have to create a big box to use as a cutting volume, vs. a more simple cutting plane.

Like most scripts the .rb file is put into the Sketchup Plugins folder.
When you restart Sketchup you get a new menu item 'Zorro' - for details of where this is and how to use the tool please see the useful .pdf guide, that you can download from the same page that you got the .rb file - i.e. the first post in this thread... πŸ€“
