I've been playing around with the new release, and it's a huge improvement from the previous version -- have a look at the vid below -- it's a really quick 'n' dirty render (two lightsources, no ambient, problems with facedness in the model, etc) but it calculated in 2 min 20 secs... and then the Slideshow renders in realtime within SU.

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=axLEADFfZCc&feature=channel_page

The above vid was made by taking a screen capture .mov of the slideshow in SU.

To say I'm impressed would be an understatement.

    Cheers,

    Tim

      Looking good there, Tim!

AdamB did a fine job on 1.3 it seems. For a real-time render solution this is very good!
I'll have a go at it as well.

        Cheers, Kwist --

let me know how you get on... especially regards using ambient (AO)... it seems to slow the rendering down considerably -- although I'm using SU mac, and it's full of holes (memory leaks, etc.)

        Cheers,

        Tim

          Tim,

Great video and show of Lightup 1.3. I have not used it (only seen examples) but this makes me want to give it a go as well.

            Thanks, Scott --

What's really amazing about it is being able to navigate around that model, in real time, full screen (about 1100 x 900) and see things like the reflections in the chrome and glass update on-the-fly.

            Cheers,

            Tim

This is what I've been looking for. I was taking a look at MODO but this is far cheaper.

Hows the stability? Ease of use? Just looking for comments on it from a user.

I've been giving a try to the demo version, and indeed, it's cool to be able to navigate seeing shadows and reflections. It is like navigating your model in 3dsMAX with radiosity turned on, only a bit clumsier. However, as reflections are map-based, it is good only for reflections in non-flat surfaces... BTW, bump-mapping only becomes visible when you make the surface slightly reflective. So reflections look better on a model of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao than for your typical clean, boxy building.

The examples shown in the product page do no justice to the program. You can actually get good-looking images out of it, if you want to do some tweaking... And do not mind that flat mirrors will show odd reflections. Only major problem seems to be that face-me components remain static when you navigate with the tour-tool.

The real selling point to me would be the ability to create a video in no time... If the kinks were ironed out.

                      Fossa --

Windows version seems more stable than the Mac one at the mo, but 1.3b will be released in a few days time and should address the stability prob.

One feature I forgot to mention -- This version has support for exporting the fully-baked model as an FBX, for use in other programs.

Chango -- free upgrades to 1.x versions, AFAIK.

                      Cheers,

                      Tim

                        😲 😲 That's great!
So you can actually export the 'texture baked' version, re-import it in Sketchup and do a default animation or whatever. Cool!
