{TomasZ} SU2KT hangs with certain components
-
I have downloaded two different balustrades fro the 3D Warehouse and put them in two different models. When I try to export the model to Kerkythea, the export starts, but when it gets to the balustrades, it slows down and finally stops completely, most often ending the SU page and sending the file into AutoSave. There are a lot of meshes, but that shouldn't matter (I have 4GB RAM).
Any idea what's happening?

I'd rather try to post this question in the "Extensions" forum and with a subject like "SU2KT hangs" or something. Tomasz, the author of the exporter would more likely notice it there. Would you like me to edit your subject line and move the topic there?
-
Sure!
I decided to re-construct the balustrades using a simpler spindle-type baluster, so I'll see if that works. But since I got the same results with two different balustrades, I have to assume that the problem has to do with all the meshes involved. Maybe that's not it, but I would like to solve the problem!

Okay, moved to Extensions (and renamed subject line).

Another and perhaps easier approach, would be to send a PM to Tomasz directly...
Or post such a question at the KT Forum...It would be interesting to know what OS you're on..??
And also what version of the SU2KT plug-in you're using...??

A link to the 3D model you've downloaded from the 3D Warehouse would also help, since it could be something with the model itself causing the issue...?!?

SU is 32 bit, meaning that most probably there's no advantage with 4Gb
(this depends on OS though, since a 32 bit app can marginally see 4Gb). -
I just tried an export with the balusters selected out and it worked! But when I tried to export the balusters only, the export froze and crashed.
Any ideas on how to solve this? I would really like to use these components, but...

I have posted the question in the KT forum!
One of the balustrades I used is now gone from the Warehouse. here is one : http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=a39b91deafa0f1d77af66a4b34799d4f&prevstart=0
Here is the spindle: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=44c318ad630074558e67c36af2e37131&prevstart=0
The export starts, then slows, then freezes. With the spindle attempt it was even worse-- it just freezes the export instantly and crashes SU.
There has to be a logical reason for this which I can correct!
KT version 3.05. OS is XP Pro.
I mentioned the RAM because I don't think it's a memory issue.

Hi Steve,
I have downloaded both models from the Warehouse and have no problem exporting them using 3.1 beta2.
Please try this version please. Is is available to download at KT Forum \ SU Section.Let me know if it helps.

Is the beta version bug-free?
In my model I have multiple copies of the balustrades--maybe 50 balusters in total. This might make a difference, even with the beta version?
-
Sounds good!
Just to give you an update. I redrew the spindle balusters to make them far more simple and the export went fine. I opened the file in KT, added a spherical sky and it crashed both KT and my computer. It is a large file (76K MB--10,600 faces), but shouldn't it be able to handle this?

The beta2 works fine.
Simply I have to put all effort right now into my website and looking for new sources of income, so I have no time for SU2KT right now. When things will settle I will gladly invest time in Ruby programming again.Tomasz

Steve,
Is there any error in a console when exporting old model.
I think it is a question of " double quote sign used in a component name.
If you can, send me the model to: tomasz AT kerkythra_dot_net. If it is too big try some file sharing website.
I will use it for testing purpose only.Tomasz

No error that I can remember, anyway. Just a window saying that "Sorry, Kerkythea has crashed". Then I got the blue screen on my computer and had to unplug it.
I will try to find a file-sharing site and send it to you.
