DC Units - Inches or cms
-
Dear Google SU Team,
I have just downloaded SU Pro7 and started to look at Dynamic Components.
I note that one can toggle between inches and cms, but that would appear to be it. Please tell me that this isn't true! I work almost exclusively in mms and not being able to do so is going to be a real pain. Why can't DCs take the model's units selected under Windows>Model Info>Units? Having only inches or cms as allowable options is really very, very silly!
Regards,
Bob -
I agree, it is pretty annoying not being able to work in mm, although once youve done all the backgorund coding in your DCs it shouldnt matter too much, as you can just adjust all your formulas by a factor of 10 so you can input mms.

Not sure I follow this ?? - but it is late
I too work mostly in mm's.
When I set up the components I always have to remember to divide my measurement by 10 to enter it in the DC boxes - which at first I found frustrating.
However as you can set the input boxes in the Component Options dialog to 'End Users Model Units' or 'Millimeters' it does minimise the problem once the model attributes have been set. -

Isn't this like complaining about inches vs. 16th of a inch? SU was initially embraced as a 32 bit architectural program, and it seems logical that inches and cc is an appropriate choices, but I could be wrong.

If you say so, but the world is about metric and imperial; Metric being millimetres and Imperial being inches... I guess things change and markets grow so I'd say keep up SU should keep up with the market...
Initially, the Leyland P76 had a market too.....

Hey everyone,
The underlying DC engine can support other unit types, so we may support mms (or furlongs for that matter) down the road. We wanted to keep the DC user interface as simple as possible for V1, figuring we'd learn a lot and be able to make improvements down the road.
The reason we chose CMs as the "standard" metric unit is because it's closest to inches, so if one toggles back and forth between metric and english your formula-driven DCs don't go microscopic or ginormous at that moment. The formula LENX=100*2 is kinda close between inches and CMs...
So there was a reason. Hope that takes the sting out of having to shift your decimal points all the time. Vote for mm support duly noted. Thanks!
Cheers,

I vote for mm. If I ever use anything else but millimeters it's meters when the models are of a large scale.
Cm might be closer in number to inch, but it doesn't feel like a natural unit to work with. In architectural offices the default unit is mm. Same for engineering.
