Thanks Edson, I get the answer. It is like Profile Builder, just to set it in the users directory.

Can you please describe in more detail what you did (i.e. where to put the files) for the benefit of other Mac users? Thanks.

On Mac you'll find a Sketchup folder as well in /users/Library/Application Support/Google Sketchup X/Sketchup/Plugins.

If someone get trouble with some of the Plugins ie. the icons are not shown, or the SUTool from wiiki doesn't appear, try to copy the files also in that direction.
In most cases it works under a Mac.

yes, indeed, burkhard. it worked! all the icons that were not showing appeared again. thanks.

this thing about having 2 plugins folders was introduced in SU7. i am not sure it is a good idea. when should one install a script in one and when should one install a script in the other? or should one always put them at the user level?

he,he simple. If the one's not working, try the second one 👊

Seriously, a bit cluttering at least.

one thing i realized is that you do no have to keep a copy on both folders. if a script is not working well in the general plugins folder just move all its files to the user level and that is it.

Which location is the preferred one? As a default?

if i could be sure all the scripts would work well when placed at the user level plugins folder i would say put them there. this would avoid having scripts in two different folders.

a safe strategy could be to install them in the normal place and, if there are any problems, move them to the usel level folder.

This whole two plugin folders is as ass-backwards and counterintuitive as the horrible new component browser.

Nothing like taking something that wasn't broken and engineering some disfunction and annoyance into it.

                        What were they thinking!?

I believe it has always been there, just not something most of us accessed or noticed.

I created Dilbertville, sorry about that...

you are right. i checked the folders related to SU6 and there is also a duplicate plugins folder at the user level. it seems that until now developers did not make use of it.

                                Strange, very strange,
We are all talking about mac's isn't it !?
Well, here my findings or better said non-findings:

I have no trace of any plugins folder in my User/Library/Application Support/ Google Sketchup X/Sketchup, neither in GSU6 not in GSU7 (both still installed and working).
I can assure you that I have never ever removed them myselve. Following this topic it was the first time I ever started looking for such a folder in User/Library etc...
I just have a plugins-folder where they have always been HD/Application Support etc...
                                (Mac powerbook G4 17", OSX 10.4.11)
And........ I don't have many problems with plugins.

                                greetings,
                                Ton

                                  ton,

this additional plugins folder may have been created when installing some plugin.

                                    Edson,
Well, maybe that is correct, but my SU6 folder is about 16MB (138 files), includes almost all big ones (alvailable for mac) and many, many smaller ones.
My SU7 folder is still rather empty, only a few rubies, since I have decided to check them all, get rid of duplicates, the once a hardly ever use and to get back any overview, before moving them to SU7.
I will see whatever happens to my user/etc....folders, no big deal for me.
I will keep you informed if I encounter a ruby making an extra unexpected ruby-folder.

                                    greetings,
                                    Ton
