      Hi Barry, hi folks.

On my iMac, I also use OS 10.4.11. for my Migthy mouse, I had to set the middle button as Button 3 for SU to react as it does on my work PC with a 3 buttons mouse.

      Just ideas.

Well I finally stumbled on it.
FYI, on this mouse it's called "middle click"
That may mean something else on other mice.
        Thanks
        Barry

          Hello Folks,

Sorry to bust in, so to speak. What you are discussing is "sorta" close to what I need. Actually, I need some Mac help.

I have a new iMac 24", maybe 9 months old. Using Tiger OSX 10.4.11 and it has an ATI Radeon 2600 Pro video card installed. (I got the machine just before Apple started shipping the iMac's with OSX Leopard.)

Anyway, my "Pan" tool has never worked properly on either v6 or v7. It will work for a couple of moves then when I use it I get the "dreaded beach-ball" for several seconds then the drawing moves.

So, If I go into Preferences > OpenGL > deselect "Hardware Acceleration & Fast Feed Back" the Pan tool will work, BUT after awhile things get weird...... like a blank screen when I toggle between x-ray and back to normal. When it goes blank I have to use select and click anywhere in the drawing area to get the drawing back again. Also, after a while I'll get the old "unexpected program shutdown".....

I am only several months old with SU and have climbed the learning curve, with large help from many on this forum, and now really would like to have the "Pan" function.

I just do not think it is my video card.... could be, but everything else, programs, work durn good..... I have tried to find if my video card driver is the latest, but can only find ATI drivers for those pesky PC's......

          Mike

            hi..just in time!
Same Problem Here, but..I notice that:

On Mac OS (I don't know if on WINDOWS too), the "PAN" tool is "realtime" responsive just if it sense the geometry stands below it on the viewport!

Otherwise, it took few seconds of lag time during the pan operation! πŸ‘Ž

Infact, Just drag the drawings pressing the PAN tool in a blank area and voila'.. the lag is here!

Hoping for a workaround from the Apple's/Google's guys! 😎

Regards (sorry for my ugly english) πŸ˜‰

              Zino,

Thank you for the response. You are correct! I notice the same strange "lag". Sometimes it is only a second and other times I get the beach ball for a while. And strangely, if I move the tool just a mm or two it works good sometimes. (Go figure.) If I use my Dell notebook with XP Pro all is well, but it isn't a 24" screen........... (whine, whine)

Yes, it would be nice to get a walk around or something from SU, but still, for the price I really can not complain all that much.

              Again, thanks,
              Mike

Well, I'm very embarrassed and owe everybody an apology for wasting your time reading my posts on the "Pan" tool.

As happens often between my ears I've been experiencing a short circuit about using the "Pan" tool.... SU is not the problem, just my brain.

I'm to ashamed to tell what I was doing wrong, but I will give "kudos" to Zino..... He made the light bulb come on.

See ya later hopefully with good questions......(But there is some "lag" time in Mac OSX and not in XP. Can live happily with it.)

But I want to know what silly thing you did, because I fear I'm doing the same thing.

when you pan, in Leopard, be sure your hand is under the model and not under an empty part of the scene: in that case pan works in realtime πŸ˜„

Wow! That was it! I can't believe it. A little trick like that... awesome. Thanks, Broomstick. Works beautifully.

Yes, broomstick,,, I learned that hard way that the "hand" had to be somewhere on the "drawing object" to move it around. Not on the drawing plane....... Even now sometimes I forget and try to move the object by clicking on the drawing surface,,, then I get to old "beach ball" and I get to grin at myself....

                        See ya,,,,,,,,
