      Hello All,

My first post here....I just modeled a boat and can't seem to create a face on the outside curvy hull - and therefore can't paint it yellow. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Thanks,

      Jeff

        Hi Jeff,

What makes the hull then? Could you post the model - or at least some image?

dory table copy.skpThanks for your response! I have attached my boat. It's actually a picnic table with a nautical theme. Happy New Year (in advance!)

Hi Jeff, Note that SU will only close faces automatically that are coplanar. What you'll need to do now is to continue with what I started; connect the end points of the segments of the curves. Generally it is a time consuming thing but in your case there are'n too many segments.

When you are finished, use the Ctrl+Eraser tool to soften the connecting edges. To see them again, go to View > Hidden geometry (which brings to my mind that there seems to be a "top" for the boat hidden in your model).

Thank you Gaieus! That technique is going to work great! I really appreciate your help!

Best wishes for a happy new year!

                Hi Jeff, (and Gaieus)
when you're fine with hand stitching you can also use plugins to do that for you on larger models. Like this one http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/skin23.zip
I tested it on your boat and it works just fine.
You could result in more facets than by hand and of course it will increase your file size. But the aspect of your curved surface is smoother.
Just unhide the geometry to see the difference.
