Woke up early this morning but didn't feel like working so I made this image for the fun of it. I took a model I made earlier this year & played with it in Xara Xtreme Pro (vector illustration software). I overlaid linework that features one of the sketchy styles I developed for FormFonts.

I found the colourless inkwash look interesting. I think I'll be doing more.

      Regards, Ross

Thanks Edgar. I think you have one of the nicest avatar images here on the forums. Is it one of your drawings?

            Ross,

I really like that image, any chance of you working your magic and making a style similar to that?

Xara indeed is one of the cool apps at this moment.
It has really become the Sketchup of graphical design and DTP.
Very easy to use and great results with zip learning curve.

              Nice image by the way!

Ross, I like this style also. Sometimes a b/w image can show more than a coloured image and I think this is the case here.

Rossy Baby, I usually don't pay too much attention to styles, preferring raw SU, but this looks really great.

                    My avatar is an anachronism.

LOL, strangely enough after all this time you are really the first person to ask.

Firstly it has nothing to do with Star Wars, it's just a name I had for my modeling and rendering business a few years back, and I thought that Solo-art (as it was called) made it pretty clear that I worked alone hence I was well priced. Anyway time passed and I was known as solo after signing my work 'solo-art'.

I did however have a dog called 'Chewbacca' once. 😉

                                            Thanks for the positive feedback.

With regards to styles, the sketchy linework used is one of the ones I developed for FormFonts and is available to that site's subscribers. It's the one called "smooth graphite". In general it isn't posible to create one style that would create a 'inkwash' effect as it involves manipulations of textures not possible within SketchUp. It is however fairly easy to create such effects in post processing. I started with a jpg colour export (edges turned off) and processed it like a digital watercolour. Rather than just leave it as a watercolour I adjusted its balance to, in effect, overexpose it. It was then converted to greyscale and had the lines overlaid. Making it greyscale had the effect of greatly simplifying the image. Once made greyscale I toyed with the idea of doing it as a sepia wash or coffee wash - as each would simply have required just doing a contone version of the image.

                                            Regards, Ross
