Ross,
I really like that image, any chance of you working your magic and making a style similar to that?
... I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for the positive feedback.
With regards to styles, the sketchy linework used is one of the ones I developed for FormFonts and is available to that site's subscribers. It's the one called "smooth graphite". In general it isn't posible to create one style that would create a 'inkwash' effect as it involves manipulations of textures not possible within SketchUp. It is however fairly easy to create such effects in post processing. I started with a jpg colour export (edges turned off) and processed it like a digital watercolour. Rather than just leave it as a watercolour I adjusted its balance to, in effect, overexpose it. It was then converted to greyscale and had the lines overlaid. Making it greyscale had the effect of greatly simplifying the image. Once made greyscale I toyed with the idea of doing it as a sepia wash or coffee wash - as each would simply have required just doing a contone version of the image.

ross,
forgive me for the off-topic that will follow. first of all, congratulations for your inkwash work: at first i was attracted by the image you posted here.
reading through the comments, i've found the posts of rodrigo and solo - what a coincidence!
i was asking myself the some question last night, before sleeping. i was just focusing mi attenction on some inspiring drawings of lebbeus woods - http://lebbeuswoods.net/ - i wish i could find some time to redraw some of his masterpieces in sketchup, just for fun. one of his works is called solohouse - http://lebbeuswoods.wordpress.com/2008/12/01/solohouse-20/ - and this recalled me our solo. in italian the word has the some meaning as in spanish and this makes me curious about this nickname too. then, thanks rodrigo for asking about it. -
Matteo - if things are going to go off-topic I can't imagine a better topic twist than that! That Solohouse is so inspired. It would be a great modeling subject.
Regards, Ross

Sorry Ross, I'm hijacking really badly here, but it's funny that "solo" is perceived only in it's negative sense in Spanish and Italian- although it also essentially means "alone" in English, it is usually used in a positive sense, as in someone can attempt or achieve something "solo" rather than needing a team of people to assist them.
Back on topic (kind of) it's very impressive what Ross has achieved "solo"!
