you dont have you use bootcamp, you can use a virtual machine instead, so it runs from within the mac interface...

      but thats off topic.

i havet upgraded to v7 yet as i detest the fact that they'de made it backwards incompatable

i have v6 and v7. didn't realize they weren't backwards incompatible... until i send files to folks with only v6. but i need the options to play with the dyn components and i'm enjoying (somewhat) the improvements in layout.

i'll try running it via vmware fusion - is that what you are doing?
i'll still need to boot into xp for autocad when i need to do some heavy lifting on the 3d side. until i test my worst case i won't know if an emulator will be 'good enough' for me.

that said - google finally responded and set me up with their 'sales' number for when i need to contact them about handing over $50 to transfer my license from PC to Mac.

While SU 7 files aren't backward compatible, you can always save your file in SU 6 format from SU 7. Certainly dynamic components wouldn't work in SU 6.

About two weeks ago I followed the link from Google SketchUp's Web site to the vendor providing upgrades to SU 7 Pro, Academic Superstore. I paid $10 for 2nd day delivery of Google Sketchup and have not received anything - no license, no documentation, nothing. They did, of course, charge me $10.

          What is going on?

I guess I have to take this up with the vendor, but what am I supposed to be getting? Did Google check out this vendor before putting them on the Google Web site as a source of obtaining the educational upgrade? Shouldn't they at least send me an authorization code by now? Why are they charging me shipping - am I supposed to obtain some materials in return for this purchase?

Thus far, the upgrade path provided by Google is not working out - at all. ๐Ÿ˜ž

            Hi Brad,

Definitely start chasing your vendor. He's supposed to issue the license. Not a big deal: four lines in an email.

I sent the four lines in an email.

They sent an automated reply indicating they're so busy, it may take five business days to respond to my email inquiry. Based on my transaction thus far, it appears that Academic Superstore doesn't run a very high quality operation.

The four lines I mentioned should be sent from them...

Indeed it's annoying that they aren't too busy when ripping your credit card off only when they should provid the serice on their side.

strange thing happened to me: I bought an Educational license for SketchUp 7 some months ago. it worked perfectly fine. yesterday I installed Windows 7 RC1. I installed SketchUp, but now the license doesn't work anymore.
every time I enter the license information it and hit enter, it simply tells me that I have got four hundred and something minutes left for evaluation...

any idea why that is? ๐Ÿ˜•

Are you using Vista? if yes try running as administrator, I had a similar issue.

Anyway, from this point of view (as Win 7 can be considered a "tweaked Vista" they probably work the same way.

thats why many call Windows 7 "Vista as it should have been" ๐Ÿ˜„

but honestly, it is quite a bit faster than Vista. and more reliable. and less power consuming. I even experienced that SketchUp starts up a lot quicker with Win7. and the screen getting all white when you execute a complex process and then try to use the mouse doesn't happen as often anymore...

So it goes blank when you try to use the mouse? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Fortunately using the mouse is a rare occasion in SU ๐Ÿ˜„

oh no, I didn't make myself clear there. it doesn't go blank.

in the past I quite often experienced the SketchUp screen going white when you try to use the mouse while a complex process is running (e.g. running sandbox tool on a huge dxf file). now with Win 7 that doesn't happen anymore... or at least not that often

just came back from a one week trip to Amsterdam. and in many hours of brooding (quite relaxed on the sun lit cobblestone streets of the city centre) I got some ideas for dear old SketchUp. sometimes, when the limitations become painful, I start looking for something else. but I always come back in the end ๐Ÿ˜„
