I voted no, because no sleep will make you ill, but on second thoughts go for it. If you take in no work you'll feel more despondent than if you take in some. I have to agree with Daniel the all nighter is a rights of passage. You'll look back at it with pride that you beat the clock.

I used to be a habitual midnight worker, although I have weened myself of it in recent years. Final project for uni I think I went 3 or 4 days with only a few hours sleep. I remember one day going to bed at 8 a.m and then getting up at 9 a.m. It was horrible but I wouldn't have finished otherwise.

One of my first jobs after uni involved building a model for an 11.am meeting in Edinburgh. I started making the model at around midnight the night before, got the 6.a.m train and finished it on the train. I thought I'd done well although in the meeting various bits of the model did fall off.

Get off this forum now, drink some coffee and make it happen.

Probably, I find that failing to plan and bad time management are traits of alot of designers. The mavericks stay up all night.

Yes you do. In my younger days, I pulled 2 all-nighters in a row. I'm still tired.

Here's an insightful (and entertaining) book on the subject.

Remus, in architecture school the all-nighter is an all too frequent occurance (for undergrads, at least). During my first run through university I once atayed up 72 hours straight (some how I ended up with three studios that semester). My second run through college, zero all nighters.

I got up a bit earlier and managed to finish of my work, just.

I think i might pull a few more though, in preparation for uni. Wouldnt want to go unprepared.

All nighters are par for the course, you are going to have many of them in the future.

In my work I am constatntly doing them as my niche is last minute illustrations for clients that have either procrastinated, got urgent last minute requests, or needed additional changes done and the company they use could not fulfil their requests in a short time frame.
I also deal with clients in different parts of the world on awkward time zones, I am very often on a 'webex' conference 3am in the morning.
So I had to get used to it and use the rendering times to get power naps in.

YES you do...the only difference is that as you get older the body takes longer to recover from it.

Phil, I took no-dose caffeine tablets once in freshman year, and had a bad reaction and never took them again. My all-nighters where pure natural adrenalin - I was a bundle of nervous energy when younger. Plus, I loved what I was doing, so that helped alot.

Yes now my all-nighters are mostly natural I stil drink a few cups of coffee but I reckon that my blood is 30% caffeine now anyway because of years of addiction to it. So for me caffeine is a natural substance.

Thank some chemist for inventing no-dose and jolt cola a particularly effective cocktail combination to keep the peepers open...although you can no longer draw straight lines for some reason.

                            🤣
I find lately that my body is just a housing for a coffee filter / exchange for 8 or so cups a day.........and yes there is a natural process involved!
