If youve got a bit of time to play around, you could just backup all your stuff, install leopard and see how it goes. If it doesnt work you could just revert back to your old OS (just had a complete mind blank and cant remember the name of the OS before leopard πŸ˜›)

I personally have had no problems with Sketchup & Leopard.
I don't do HUGE projects but with domestic type property then it works a treat.

Thanks for your feedback. After visiting a sketchup blog, I noticed that many people were complaining...hmmm.

Hi, I am trying to run sketchup in Leopard on a macbook and it is crazily sow - freezing up and getting the spinning ball even when starting drawing a basci model. Where is the form where people were talking about this?
              thanks

I don't know what the deal is. It's pretty fast on my MBP, and I of the mind that I am happily staying in the Leopard world - even updating my desktop from XP to a Leopard(Mac) machine. Perhaps I haven't had any problems because my MBP is really young (though I did upgrade to Leopard a week after I bought it last December).

I have pretty complex models (~300k faces), and they run much faster on my MBP than my aging PC.

I've been using Sketchup6 and lots of rubys on my imac running Leapard for several months now. Never had a problem.

Sketchup runs fine under Leopard. (-ish)

But if I could do it again, I would never have upgraded to Leopard.

It is significantly slower all around - it has that Windows thing of the disk practically taking off when you open a folder. I just hate it. Unless you have a really compelling reason to upgrade (and Time Machine ain't it) then stay put is my advice.

OK so I think my problem (which was: super slow sketchup performance even drawing the first rectangle in a new document) is not due to Leopard but due to my hardware. I have a white macbook with an Intel GMA X3100 graphics chipset. To be honest this doesn't mean much to me but after looking at some forums I know it's not particularly good. But performance seems ok now after I unchecked 'use fast feedback' in the openGL settings under Sketchup preferences.

If someone could give me an idiots guide to graphics chips and openGL, and the pros and cons of having openGL settings on or off, I would appreciate it!

Otherwise I will just continue kicking myself for ignoring my better judgement by getting the cheaper macbook instead of macbook pro to replace my knackered old powerbook...
