LightUp

Wow Adam. That is pretty impressive. The Sponza looks great with Lightup. I know that is a rather big file so by the looks of it, LightUp does a good job.
The ambient occlusion looks prety ok to me. Maybe a little messy in the darker parts (difficult for all render engines), but very good on direct lit surfaces.Looks like a nice improvement.

Just downloaded the new version, Adam. Thanks...this should be very interesting.

I've downloaded it but I'll wait till I have more time to play with it.
Looking forward to kicking the tires on this one.

really impressive this upgrade, thanks a lot. I try to simulate XRays scaterring in a box ( as far as XRay is also Light ...), it's very interesting to see the invisible..

Any chance you could post some pics of your experiments malaise? it sounds very interesting.

Hallo
Has someone feedback from the version LightUp v1.1c ?
At this moment, I can't use the sprite ( simulating small light source) which is turn into
texture despite the <$> facing the name. So I stay blocked when the rendering is made...I 'll send some picture if I can solve that problem . Thanks Remus for your interest about
Xrays..MALAISE (PAM)

Thanks,
This looks great. I just downloaded it. Dont have time
right now but I will definately try it out. -
AdamB, looks very interesting! Does it work in SketchUp 5? I couldn't find this on your web site (perhaps wasn't looking hard enought).

Thanks.
No LightUp only supports SketchUp 6 (and higher!) because to integrate with SU nicely it uses WebDialogs and Observers.

I have tree quite simple questions i guess
How do you walk around like in the Sponza building ?
When I try to walk I loose the lightningIs the light included when one export as AVI ?
Is it possible to export 2d images containing the lights in a heigh resolution ?
Thanks

When I try to walk I loose the lightningNoticed that as well. I have the gravity switched on in the LU options and then navigate using that and scenes.

Exporting animation with LU takes some time, the red line at the bottom of the screen is a progress bar (EDIT: just figured out it measures the time the demo has been loaded, once it reaches the righthand side of the screen SU locks up). Depending on your machine capabilities and the amount of scenes and lighting you have set you might want to go make yourself some coffee/tea/lunch/5 course meal while waiting. ... Oh lord it takes loooong, and I only had 3 scenes (using the LU studio skippy) to check the AVI export (and at a low viewport res at that!) so I can give you the correct answer. Sorry but the demo licence expired before the export finished. You know the demo licence only works for 30 minutes at a time then SU locks up.

When you hit the enter/return button on your keyboard it takes a screenshot at 5x the resolution of your viewport. They're saved in TGA format and takes up quite a bit of space.
Also have a look at the LU manual Adam put together. It's not complete by far, but it is quite useful.

That's funny:
"come on now...need to be fast here...can't think...how much time left?..let's export..and...zzzoing....time's up" -
Hi Juju
Thanks for your very usefull information.
It's strange that it takes long to export as AVI, does it have to render the light for each frame ?
Thanks

When I try to walk I loose the lightningIf you start the Tourtool and switch on Collision and Gravity you will be able to walk around buildings etc. It isn't the Sketchup Walk tool.

LightUp completely replaces the Sketchup rendering so functions that save screenshot of Sketchup won't work. LightUp currently only supports saving high resolution screenshots that can be sampled down to a useable size in a PS, PaintShop Pro etc.
Exporting movies from LightUp sounds like a useful feature for a future version though.

At the risk of being a pedant, it doesn't "Lock up" Sketchup after 30 minutes. It times out and stops working but you can continue using SU as normal without LightUp for as long as you like.

"come on now...need to be fast here...can't think...how much time left?..let's export..and...zzzoing....time's up"Yeh, laugh as much as you like KB, it was exporting the entire time until the demo time limit kicked in, and its not like I'm using a lightweight machine. Gathering from Adam's feedback, it looks like AVI export with LU scenes don't work currently. Probably why SU locked up on me then.
BTW, in his guide Adam warns about LU being capable of corrupting a model. The LightUp studio file I used with the above attempt to export had something happen to it, the model just completely disappeared after that little test run, so make sure you have a backup of the file as suggested by Adam.

Sorry to hear it messes up your model.
As to .avi export: since LU is a baking app, doesn't it replace the textures with the new 'enlighted' ones? In that way, A .avi export should take the same time to export.
But I guess it doesn't work that way...
