(req) displacement map tutorial

Jon posted an excellent tutorial on making seamless textures (thank you, Jon!). Reading it, I thought: dang, if anybody would post something as clear as this on making displacement maps, I'd be truly grateful.

So ... if you have something lying around, please do post it - and bask in the warm glow of my gratitude.

You know the company that makes the 3D modeling software you're using? Well, they have this little search engine side business. You'd be surprised at what it turns up.
