Odd Glitch- Clicking Surfaces
-
I've been working on a model for work and I have recently been tested by an increasingly frustrating issue.
Background :Its a single story building, mostly bare interior, surely not that complex...
Problem: If I go to click on a surface (window pane for example) it will ignore that surface and choose the one behind it (the face of the back of building). It happens with 90% of the surfaces, both transparent and not. This drives me insane, since the push/pull will grab the floor inside the building instead of making a square column wider. It will paint the floor with a material instead of changing that of my facade.
Now it gets interesting.
The problem goes away if I copy the entire file (copy/paste) and put it in a new file. However, it always returns eventually.
It does not seem that the files are corrupted or anything of the sort, and I'm fairly sure that when I copy them over to my Macbook the problem goes away.I am running windows XP on a 6 month old Dell. (Now that I think about it, this problem didn't exist until I switched from Vista to XP last week)
Any help would be greatly appreciated

First port of call should probably be to go window->preferences->opengl->correct reverse picking bug. I ahvent had this problem myself, but sometimes it works.

genius, pure f@#ing genius.
Problem hopefully solved. It stated 'DO NOT CLICK THIS, unless you are having trouble selecting surfaces'.
I thought thank god, i knew it was something simple.
Thanks you so very much

No problem, i hope it keeps working

Alright, that didn't help on one of my drawings, so I unclicked hardware accel and the box for reversed picking driver bug and now I seem to be golden.
Hope this helps people in the future who come and do a search

Might be worth trying turning fast feedback off and turning hardware acceleration back on. Turning hardware acceleration can really slow SU down with bigger models
-
Yea I've realized that, and have been playing around with the settings a bit.
It seems to happen some of the time Accel is on, but never when it is off. Using the reverse selecting bug thingy didn't seem to change much. And fast feedback I only use when accel is off.Right now its working with accel ON, reverse picking driver bug OFF, fast feedback OFF.
Oddly enough thats where I started haha. SO who knows, but atleast when it pops up I now know where to change it.Either way, I can work still work 100 times faster when i can actually click on the surfaces, than when it loads quickly but I have to 'line draw' everything.
I'm happy I can just finish my project with my wits about me. I nearly tossed the monitor across the office earlier.
Thanks Again!

By any chance do you have integrated Intel graphics on your computer (as opposed to a separate video card)? This is a common problem with the Intel on-board chipset and SU. No real solution except a proper video card that supports OpenGL.
-
Well I'm not sure about that, I'm new to this computer. This is my computer at work, and all I know about it is that it is an Intel Core Duo @ 2.20 GHz with 2GB RAM.
I imagine a new video/graphics card that works with opengl would indeed solve the problem for good.

I have just had the same problem with my computer at work, but only since I installed a 256mb ATI card last week to test. Not sure of the model of card because im currently at home.
My first step would be to upgrade to the very latest drivers, but for me I will just be popping my Nvidia card back in. -
You might have some luck using the Omega drivers for ATI- they are unofficial drivers and are not guaranteed to work but they sometimes solve this kind of issue. The best solution still seems to be an nvidia graphics card, in spite of Google saying that ATI is now fully supported.
-
..you can get them here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/
and again, they are unofficial drivers, please don't blame me if your computer explodes -
I don't know if the Omega drivers will solve the problem, however in the past when I had ATi GFX cards I only used the Omega Drivers, they're good and help to speed things up a little.
