Obviously I hate to pay compliments to Podium's direct competition , but this guide is well done. The glossary's a nice touch.
Next time, do hire an editor.

Now how's that...??
Don't know if I/we should feel flattered about this... But I can't see how it can be a direct competitor...
Podium wouldn't have become what it is without the render engine behind...@unknownuser said:

Thanks...
I will refrain from commenting on your last remark...

Now, now, Kim. Let's not forget the great work Tavi, Jim and Sid put into Podium.
And as far as the engine's concerned ... you just wait til you see what the new one can do.
But to stay on topic, that guide IS good. Well done there. I'm hoping the upcoming new material guide will be, errr, quite different from the old one. Ain't not much use having a guide if only a small portion of your user base can actually understand it.
How 'bout a 'Getting Started With Materials Guide'?

It's just sad that the render engine is going to change, cause I'm sure that the new features of Podium 2 would be achievable with the Thea engine...
Ha ... You haven't seen any renders made with the new engine, have ya? The quality's amazing.

Thanks... Glad you like it...
I'm sure many will find it useful...
I think many will.
This tutorial will be a kind of "work in progress" document, and for sure I will spend more time on the material creation part...[/quote:2jy4tiw1]
Excellent.
Having said that, you need to remember that there's already a wide range of pre-made materials available and user only need to apply these and thereby don't need to think about material creation... [/quote:2jy4tiw1]
What can I say? I like to know how things work. Although I do realize that bitmaps can be easily swapped for other ones.

Why not have the option of switching between a tweaked GUI and settings list of presets (like Podium does) that people could use quite easily and a more advanced (so called pro) GUI / tabs where you have all the extra tweakable options going?
I am sure something like that will be a HUGE hit.

Fully agree with that...!
I've always expressed that I have a high respect for the work done...@unknownuser said:

I'm looking very much forward to see it, actually...
I'm sure that it will remain a great tool..!It's just sad that the render engine is going to change, cause I'm sure that the new features of Podium 2 would be achievable with the Thea engine...
Moreover - if there hadn't been this "fuzzyness", we could have joined forces and made a great team...@unknownuser said:

Yeah - I know what you mean, but pro's like it this way...
But I do acknowledge that there's an equal amount of users (if not more) who would prefer an easier process...@unknownuser said:

As you will see in the new Getting Started tut (from page 15 up to 21), I've already started on it...
It's really not that difficult...This tutorial will be a kind of "work in progress" document, and for sure I will spend more time on the material creation part...
Having said that, you need to remember that there's already a wide range of pre-made materials available and user only need to apply these and thereby don't need to think about material creation...

although i had already praised kim's work privately i may as well say publicly that he is done a helluva job. it is a terrific improvement on what we had before as it covers most of the important topics in a very clear way. well done indeed!
creating a great app is a tremendous effort and must be highly praised. however, i feel that documenting well what you are offering people is almost as important.
the clearer it is how to use KT the more users it will have.
