      how do i create a mesh (TIN) from any face so i can then 'smoove' with the sandbox tool...
      (rather then doing manually??
      is there a ruby?

        There isnt a specific ruby that willa allow you to do this yet (whaats subd and smooth should do this.) Although you could try doing it with this ruby.

        Basicaly the ruby i linked lets you slice up your model with planes as you draw them, do a bit of experimenting before you have to do it on your real model, and its known to be slightly unstable, so save first before you use it.

          A fairly direct approach, as Smoove works best vertically, is to rotate your surface horizontal (easy enough using inferencing) then intersect it with a prefabricated TIN

            Your probably best of with alan's method, it will give you a much more regular mesh thatn you get with the method i described.
