      Hi All,
I'm having trouble with the 3dtext command. When I select the command either from the menu or the toolbar I get no response and no text dialog box. SU freezes up until I hit the escape key. It's almost as if the dialog box is waiting for my response but it is not visible. I reinstalled/repaired SU pro to no avial.
It used to work before I upgrade to pro.
Any ideas. I want it back.

        Hi Dave,

I don't have the same problem as you, but I have noticed that my machine 'thinks' a while before showing me the 3D text dialog box... so something is happening in the background. Never lasts more than 5 seconds though, which still seems a long time.

          Thanks Ronan,
Nope. I just tried being patient and no cigar. I finally hit escape to get my cursor back after 2 min. I did see the 3d text dialog box flash onscreen for a split second, then disappear.

            Dave,

Try to check whether the dilogue is "hidden behind" the main SU window. If you exit from full screen mode, you can drag the main window aside and see what's under it. Sometimes these dialogues get lost from the main window. If you happen to find it, drag it inside the main window and it'll be fine.

            Gai...

              Thanks Gaieus,
Good thought but I tried it and no luck. It used to work, so I pulled up the old file where I used 3d text and still couldn't get it to work. Very puzzeling.

                Dave,

I don't know when the 3Dtext routine reads the fonts on the computer, but if it does so at the onset of the tool, a problem with your fonts could be glitching SketchUp.

I'm not saying this is the cause, but it could be one potential item to check off your debugging list. Since SketchUp has had problems with certain characters in the filenames of textures, perhaps font filenames could also present similar problems.

Side note: I have many (probably too many) fonts on my machine, but haven't seen this behavior. So, I don't think the number of fonts would be a problem; maybe just one font filename is confusing SketchUp.

Just thinking outside the box here...

                Regards,
                Taff

Well, I couldn't find any text files with odd looking names so I uninstalled the whole shootin match and reinstalled and now it works. Must have been a corrupt file somewhere.
                    Thanks for the ideas.
