Matching SU model with oblique aerial photos
-
Has anyone inserted matched an SU model to a Pictometry/oblique photo such as the Birds Eye view from maps.local.live?

In theory you should be able to do it with photomatch and setting the axis position for overhead view, but....
I tried a local site for which I already had a building and had very poor results. I think the problem is with the extents of the live maps birdseye aerial photo. I could only use a screen capture which has the effect of cropping the image and therefore screwing up SU's photomatch axes. If you had a proper aerial photo (uncropped) it should work, however. -
This has been my experience as well. It's very difficult to get the angle to appear correctly. Sometimes if you play with it enough you can get pretty close though by eyeballing it.
What those bird's eye views are good for, however, is if you model the existing buildings and then use the arials as a texture and apply it to the faces of your model. Qualities not great (you have to use Print Screen which sux for resolution) but you usually get the whole building face which can be harder from the ground (and you don't have to actually go to the site and take pictures and hope you didn't miss anything).

I got it close enough for it's purpose. Was hard to adjust it as the end perspective points where far far out to each side. Boxing up some of the nearby buildings helped adjusting the positions.

Hi Tom,
Have a look at Tom's (tomsdesk's) work here.
I guess this may be something you are trying to create. -
It is very easy if you can create two pins more to position the image in the face. Then you can texture the whole model with an image like projected.
