    I am in need of modeling some batting cages and I dont even know where to begin modeling the net or cage surrounding it. Anyone have any suggestions?

      Use a .png image to texture it. .png files support transparency, so youll be able to get a texture that you can see through.

      If you dont fancy making your own, i think theres a chainlink texture in the materials browser. If you apply this to a surface representing the net and then play about with the colors a bit you should be able to get something lookign pretty good.
