I don't understand your problem...select a point of rotation...select the 0 deg vector, using inference if desired...rotate...plus:one click to circular array.
I find this tool very elegant and intuitive. what, precisely is your frustration?

what you must realise about the rotate tool is that you can have the coloured protractor on any surface.

Say you have a complex object and you want to rotate it using the blue rotation.. Place the protractor on any horizontal surface and click - move in either red or green direction, click again then you can rotate the whole object without trying to find a blue rotation point on the object.

I happen to like the rotate tool and I use it all the time as I rarely have a 90 degree corner.

          I hope this helps.

And, of course, if you press 'shift' you can lock the protractor on any plane you want.
            Very handy!

If you don't know where you're going, you're never going to get there.

And there's Folding Along an Axis of Rotation (as so labeled in Help under Rotate tool). Click on center point, drag protractor to orient in 3D, click to set, drag to rotate. This is very useful.

And the Move tool morphs into Rotate too if you are moving a group or component. Hover tool over the little red crosses on the face of the bounding box and rotate away.

                I find that feature annoying.

Also - if you hold down control as you rotate you can type in a number and it acts like a multicopy/rotate/paste, good for making cones or circles or rafters around a circular building.

Yes, I also like the rotate tool - alebit it could have even more possibilities (see thread here) but I dislike the function of the move tool when "morphing into a rotate tool", as well. Sometimes, when trying to precisely place something, it keeps "morphing" though I don't want it to and need to zoom in to avoid those little red crosses. This should/could be a toggle option maybe with a keay or something.

But I have to say that I fully agree with the drink needed (though it is just 11:31 a.m. here - after all we're in the Corner Bar or what?!)

Hey John, with SketchUp 6 you no longer have to "Hold Down" the Ctrl key. Just tap it once. Also you can do at any point during the rotate operation, not just before the first of the 3 clicks.

Count me in for the irritatin of the Move turning to rotate.
