Well, maybe I was exaggerating. It's rather about 70p.
Ah yeah, and it's a "mug" (or bottle) of 0.5 litres in my regular corner bar (not a puny pint only)

You insert it into the slot on the cart to "release" it (they are chained together) and get it back when you take the cart back to its place. The reason is not making money (1 dollars) for the company but to get people to take the carts back.

Thanks Gai. Here we get the carts for free except in the airports. I think they do chain them up at night if they are left outside.

I have no idea what that is, but it certainly reminds me of Monty Python...

Dear Dave,
Hope you feel good.
(Sorry for my english speaking, it isn't easy to explain)
The idea is the following:at the beginning you need two coins of one dollar.
you need a dollar to free your first row of shopping carts.
And a second coin to free the second row.
Afterwhat you get back one dollar in triggering you two rows together. > this dollar will free one by one the others rows.
and at last get back it in triggering the ring.
At the end the cost of the operation is the one dollar used to free the first row.
;-)simon.

Hi Simon,
Thank you for that explanation. It makes sense. I kind of wish the carts were like that here but alas, if they are left outside at night, they are chained and locked together. Oh well. I like the photo.
