Inferencing problem
-
Hi, There has to be an easy way to do this but I haven't figured it out...
OK, so I'm designing a ramp with just 1 face(no thickness). I've rotated it to a specific angle and now I want to extend it with the move tool but I cannot pull the edge along the incline trajectory. SU will lock it along the green axis with the arrow key or holding shift, but this results in a change in my incline angle. The pink inference line will not show up for me. The work around I've been using is to rotate the ramp back to horizontal, extend, rotate back, and trim to the desired length. This is becoming cumbersome, and I just know I must be missing something simple. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

guess you should use guides. they are created with tape measure tool or with the protractor tool.

Oh, I never thought of that...having a "duh" moment. I was wondering though, is there a key that forces a pink inference like the arrow keys do for the red blue and green axes?
-
i dont think theres any way you can force a pink inference, but if you do get inferencing on pink, you can press shift to lock it, might help.

Ecory, if you right click on the ramps surface and choose Align Axis.
This should allow you to get the green/red inferencing back.
Once you have finished, right click somewhere over the axis and choose Reset.Alternatively you can set the axis manually by clicking on the axis icon on your toolbar.

Great, thanks for the help

Ecory,
To lock the inferencing (temporarily) to ANY axis hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard.
Very useful.
...This way you can lock to the R,G or B axes.
Similarly, as in your case, when you see the Magenta coloured axis light up
(= perpendicular to edge or parallel to edge) - hold down the Shift Key also.
...
Holding down the Shift key will also lock the inferencing (temporarily) to any arbritrary axis (Black Line).
...
As mentioned, guidelines can also be used.
You could also draw a temporary line leading away from you ramp as a guide which you can delete afterwards.
...
Hope this helps
