Measure Pitch
-
Is there an easy way to measure the pitch of an inclined plane in SU6 (eg. roof face)?

If you mean measure an existing model, the only way I know is to use guides: create a vertical guideline from a point, then copy it 12" horizontally, then create a horizontal guideline at the intersection between the inclided plane and one of the vertical guides; then measure the vertical distance.
If you mean measure the pitch of a roof you are modeling, use the compass tool - instead of entering a value for the angle, enter the pitch (such as 7:12).

Hi All
My question was directed to measuring the pitch of existing roofs etc. I find myself measuring these pitches (degrees) quite often and do not always vave gable roofs. I was hoping that there was a magic script that may be able to measure the angle of such faces.
ThanksWalter

Hi Walter, hi folks.
If the measuring protractor cannot measure the angle you want, can you post a picture (sketch) of what you want to acheive. I am pretty sure that some trick can be found to do the job.

Walter,
I do not posses a magic script (ruby).....But I can offer a Speed Square.
Yeah I know.....not what your after.....but in the mean time give it a try.
And if you have never used one before, it's pretty straight forward(see attached).
Using the speed square component, align the pivot pt and rotate until vertical or horizontal.(maybe a bit oversimplifying... I know).Oh, and you mention hip roofs, if working with a model just use the cross section tool & the speed square as above. :~)
Best,Charlie
