Avoiding Politics in the Office?
-
How does everyone deflect these sensitive discussions? After the last liberal-bashing forward from my far-right boss, I emailed him and politely said "hey, you and I work well together, but we're never going to convert each other. Given how ugly 2008 is shaping up to be, can we just agree to forego politics at work and just focus on design?" Now he's not speaking to me. What works?

A solution to your problem:
Move to the UK, nobody gives a rats ass about politics here apart from the politicians.

i've heard that hiring a belly dancer to come in on his birthday goes over well.
i don't understand the way people choose sides in politics, like it's some sort of sporting event.
why not evaluate each person on their own merits. -
Here in the US folk like to box other folk into polical affiliations. If you are gay then you are a liberal, if you hunt you are conservative, if you own a prius you are liberal, if you have a hummer you are conservative...etc, etc.
The AM radio bands here are riddled with political pundits and religious inforcers, fueling arguments all through the day, selling millions in adverts and getting wealthy in the course of it, to them it's entertainment, to the listeners it's a serious issue that requires debate and conversion of those with a different opinion.
No wonder Mc Carthyism worked so well.
