[Obsolete] Component Spray Tool
-
doesn't seem to work with me
when spraying i always get the circle (whatever my settings) - click centre, radius and nothing happens.. just once i managed point, only after setting both default and dialog the same.
also tried it on a clean install.. is it just me?
-
Hi CadFather,
Please post an example SKP so I can see if the problem is script-related or not.
Regards, -
well there's no skp really - all i did was put a rectangular ground plane, and then tried the spray on it. also tried on a small sandbox mesh.
i tried again after posting yesterday and got the spray by point to work. the others though, will recognise the first click (centre of shape) but not the second so that i am in a sort of loop and the shape does not set.
i noticed at times if i drew the radius (second click), way beyond the mesh a message would pop up warning me that a huge number of comps would be sprayed, when i reduced the radius to be inside the boundaries of the mesh, nothing happened..
i will keep lookng into it - i seem to be the only one with this
by the way great ruby, even by point it is great.

nice tool ! respect.

Hi CadFather,
i think I've found what's wrong. It is bug-like but not really.
Watch the "Layer" list and select a layer, don't let this field blank the first time you use the script.
Am I right ? -
Really nice tool, have used already quite a lot, very handy. Thanx Didier!
-
thanks for looking into it Didier - you are right, it works very well now and wow, really a must have tool, thanks!
so now i also know the intruding 2d bryce man in the 3d template has been drawn on 2 different layers!
-
Incredible!
I can't believe that this for free, you know that you gave away a "super-randor.rb" to us?Thank you very much for the hours(?) you were spending for the devolpment. I agree with CadFather: A must have.
Thank you. -
Hi,
Call me stupid, but what's a "super-randor.rb" ??? -
it's a smustard plugin to randomise rotation and scale of selected objects by TBD
-
At me problem as well as at CadFather. Second click does not work.
I so did not understand that it is there needed to do with layers. -
in the dialog box there is a layer field which has to be chosen
-
Thanks CadFather. It's all said

Hi Didier!
May be it was discussed earlier ..
1.There are 2 bugs: the plug-in limits drop-down list of components (for example 290 in model is reduced to 10 in dialog).
2.drop-down list is not stable: drop-down list of components is visible only if down arrow
is continually pressed.
Thanks for attention. -

Hi all,
Here is the new toy.The last file is for french users only.
Enjoy
How about including the ability to use a layer as a mask for including/excluding selected areas for component placement? Or how about being able to select a material type to include/exclude? Thus, if I had a street layout on a layer, I could click on 'Streets' layer and use it as an exclude mask for vegetation. Or I could click on a 'Soils' layer and 'include' this for component placement. The material option would allow me to select a material named 'dirt' as receiving all vegetation components.

Doable. It's on the wish_list

Thanks for attention. For the some or other reason the grass component I want isn't showing up in the drop-down list for components to spray. I've renamed the component so the name starts with a "#" as well as with a "01" in an attempt to get it to surface to the top of the list, but it still isn't showing up.
Does anybody have any idea how to get components onto the list that isn't showing up?
-
OK, just tried the tool in a blank skippy. If you have a sky dome the spray tool doesn't work as expected - stuff ends up on top of the sky dome.
Didier, is it possible for you to sort this out?
-
Couldnt you just spray the components and then place the sky dome?
-
I've moved the surface on which I want to spray above the sky dome, but it is still not working as expected.
The surface is in a group, the group is active and I am able to select the surface and make changes to it. The spray tool keeps on returning an error about there not being a surface onto which to spray (not so, there is) tried up to 3000 tries.
Still trying to get the component of choice onto the list to pick from (which component to spray).
I'm working through the manual again to see if there is anything I missed.
