Mike, you can activate it again. Generally MS don't have a problem with reactivations, I've had to activate 3 times already because of reinstallations. If they suspect something they will let you know, if you run into problems doing it over the internet you could always phone them and do an activation that way, explain yourself if you feel you need to. As long as you don't have more copies installed than your licence allows, typical licence is 1 machine at a time. I hope you got XP Pro, XP Home is useful but lacks quite a few nifty features of Pro, especially in a work / business environment.
I know some ppl (PC hardware / performance junkies) who reinstall as often as every 3 months, some even as often as every month. I don't know why they torture themselves though, getting everything set up the way I want it takes me a day and a bit.

I think that if you use the Boot Camp partition as your Parallels disk, the same authorization applies to both. There is some talk about this on the Parallels site in the FAQ I believe - or in the forum. I seem to remember that you have to install the Tools package in Boot Camp before you authorize because that package changes the drivers which awakens Windows paranoia again.
I'm using the VMware solution even though I bought the latest upgrade to Parallels because I have a graphics problem with Revit under Parallels that I don't have with VMware. You might want to try the latest Fusion beta to see if it gives you the graphics performance that you need without going into Boot Camp. It's nice that there are two ways to do things without having to reboot.

as I understand it - when you register windows it notes the components in your computer, i.e the serial numbers of your MB, Hard drive etc. So long as they don't change too dramatically you can re-register as many times as you like.

would you care to tell us how is your try with bootcamp going? i have been considering installing it in order to try out apps like kerkythea and the like. somehow i am afraid of doing it because of viruses.

you can install windows on multiple machines in your possession, multiple times... over and over and over... change anything in the machine they don't know or care... you can change ip addresses... all of it...
but you just better own that key... or the software police will come kick in your door and take you to that little black room and beat the mysql out of you...

When I moved from my laptop to my new puter I tried to load programs from the laptop and many rejected the new puter "This program is not registered for this computer" - Windows is no different.

you don't get your updates from windows update silly...
they want to crawl up your ass and have a look around...
look on torrent for SP1 SP2 SP3 SP4 and others... or if you want to use MS' site... you should be able too, I have been doing system builds repeatdly for the last month with each build I usually end up installing the OS multiple times, and updating... this is with XP and Win2000 Pro mind you...
never had any issue... but after I downloaded the installers a few times, I finally put them on my server so I could go straight to them...

About four months ago I had a motherboard melt down on me. Since the whole system was getting a bit long in the tooth, I built a totally new system and reinstalled XP from the discs I had from the old system. I didn't have any trouble in any way.
I had been upgrading the old system right along and had replaced everything but the motherboard at least once, I guess I finally upgraded it to death.
The service packs and auto-updates came right from Big Bill the Bazillionaire.
