OS X Leopard: mousebehaviour
-
Has anyone found a way to make the scrollwheel activate the "orbit" command ?
At work I use a windows version where this works. -
It depends on what mouse and any software it uses. Some mice use a piece of software that has the middle button do something when you hold it down. I use a logitech and don't use it's software. IF you do use the software there is a way to set it to act as a scroll wheel and as button three when pressed (versus the right button which on a mac is a control/click).

I appreciate the input ! For now I use the default drivers under Leopard and the "mighty mouse" that comes with an iMac. I'll look into third party software for tweaking mousebehaviour, thanks.

On all my Macs the middle mouse button (two Macs have logitech three-button-with-scroll-wheel, one has mightymouse) operate orbit in SUPro. Hit the shift as well and they pan. To the best of my ability to tell I've added no drivers, set no related options or changed any settings.

I have little experience of modern Macs, but the default middle button behaviour in my daughter's Imac Mighty Mouse was to bring up Dashboard. To orbit in SU, I had to change that in the Mouse control panel into button 3 (if I remember right).

You are right, when I recently installed SU on my Mac I had some mouse scroll issues and first I ditched the mouse with the nipple feeling button (the gizmo Apple supplies with new rigs) for a real mouse (Dell optical) and in options mapped the scroll as 3rd button. I have no use for those useless widgets anyhow that are more of a nuisance as they pop up on every mouse slip.

D'oh! Yes, you're right you do have to change the mouse button settings. I did it so long ago that I clean forgot and of course those preferences got carried across when I migrated my stuff across machines.
I turn off the stupid side buttons as well. Damn nuisances. And I turn off dashboard because it is even more of a nuisance.

thanks, all. Will try that when I get home. These forums are truly helpful.

Hi
I run Leopard on a MacBook and whenever I tried to use the middle mouse button it activated 'Spaces'. To resolve this I selected Spaces and held down the mouse button to select Spaces preferences where you will find two option boxes to activate 'Spaces' i.e. 'F8' and, over to the right, Secondary Mouse Button, Middle Mouse Button or, '-'. By selecting '-' it freed-up the Middle Mouse Button for use in SU
Hope this works for you
