As I am between projects I decided to play a little.

I am sure everyone saw my low poly thread, anyway I decided to put some of them to the test and see if they can be used effectively in a render.

    Silver Surfer, size 234kb

    http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/8329/silver700eg9.jpg

    Neo (kinda πŸ˜‰ ), size 356kb

    http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/944/neo700jd8.jpg

    Ironman, size 418kb

The Pavillion, this is a model that Eric Lay made (Boofredlay) which is available at Form Fonts. I added the VW, trees and scene.

                    Inspiring as always, Pete.. πŸ˜„

Seem that you've added bloom to some of them... I really like that...!! Gives a nice touch to the images... πŸ˜‰

THe shadow used in the Neo render seem very hard... Post pro..?? πŸ˜•

                    Cheers

                      Thanks everyone.

Fred, I noticed the Beetle needed some air at 80% of render, decided to just go for it as it was just a fun render and not commissioned.

Frederik, I used an HDR lighting setup and that was the result, I did not do any PP except for logo.

James, Which process do you want to know about, the rendering or the modeling?

                        Pete,

These are delightful. Neo works best for me. The VW seems to be sinking into the pavement just a little. Keep playing!

I rendered with an HDR lighting (the image in background) when completed I selected to export the rendered image as a .png with the alpha map in bedded.I opened the render in Paintshop pro X (I do not use Photoshop) and used the original HDR (a copy converted to .jpg) image as my background image. I softened the edges and merged layers, then applied 'soft focus' to entire merged image and added logo.

                                Hey solo,
By reading through the comments i just realised these aren't podium renders (HDR background).
                                So these are 3dsMax?

                                A question,
You used HDR background, but how did you get those shadows on the ground?
I mean, there is no ground surface right?
Really interested how you do that. Is that some option in Max where you can block the ground surface from the view, but still see shadows ?

                                Cheers,

                                  Very good question... πŸ‘
This was what I wanted to ask with the Neo render, where the shadow seem too dark/hard...
But I thought it was done in a post pro... 😳

                                    The Pavillion is Podium 1.5.

The others are not, yes Chris you are correct about the hide ground plane, it hides the physical mesh but not the ground plane (almost like SU, imagine if you could render a shadow on ground plane without it being a face)

Pete these are great images and nice technique.
I have never really completely understood how HDR's worked. I use Kerkythea and I have found that it is difficult if not impossible to position the HDR or global (are these terms interchangable?) The scale nevers appears to be correct and there dosn't seem to be a way of adjusting.
                                      Good work man 😎
