      Hi,

I've been hunting around to try and find an answer to this but the only thing i found was a video tutorial that didnt quite apply to my model, apoligies if I've missed the blindingly obvious.

I'm modeling a hospital courtyard (landscape to be added later in KT) but i can't get certain areas to become faces. Is this something to do with planes? How can i find out which edges are the culprits that need to be sorted? I've gone over all edges in the hope that they will connect and create the face but had no joy with that.

I hope from the attached image you can see the areas that wont become faces (yet others will)

      Any help greatly appreciated
      Cheers

Well, size (I mean too small size when very smal faces don't create) shouldn't be a problem here (provided you are working in real life scale) so I guess some edges are just not coplanar.

Are the faces not creating in the bottom left corner, on that roundish structure (that I could imagine to be some kind of bench if the scale is right) or on the faces of the left wall on the second floor?

I also see some blue colour (which can be the back face of the outsode wall) all around the ceiling.

A monochrome image would be better I guess (especially if you are modelling correctly and there are no back faces).

One tip for the rectangular shapes at least to go to the style dialogue > in model > edit > edge settings > and in the pull-down menu at the bottom set to "color by axis". Now whichever edge/line is black is not coplanar with the other ones which should be red/blue/green if your model is aligned to the axes.

Also you can try to triangulate some of the holes if correcting the non-coplanar lines would be too much of a hassle. Smooth the triangular lines after they create the faces.

It seems to be a CAD import originally. Is it?

          Thanks for the quick reply!

I just checked the CAD drawing that it came from and some of the lines are elevated by 0.00001......excellent. (I didn't draw it by the way 😉 ) so I've gone for the sandbox option using the edge lines as contours. Seems to do the trick well enough. Think it would have taken forever and a day to go through and reposition each line that's out.

It's all to real life scale, and since reading up on this forum, all the faces on are correctly orientated - though i think i may have to sort out the architects model.

Thanks a lot for your input, i'll hopefully upload the finished piece after some KT editing. Fingers crossed, its my first real attempt at SU and KT!

Glad you can fix the problems.
Also looking forward to seeing the final result.

Make sure to register at the KT Forums and start sharing your WIP for advices in the WIP Gallery section (the guys are very helpful there) provided you can share the project before finishing it.
