[Tutorial > Modeling] Roof tiles

Was asked in PM to help with a roof tile model, so I thought why waste a tut, maybe someone else one day may need this.

Nice
I was thinking about tiles last night because I'd like to model a circular tower with a tiled roof. It occurred to me that I have no idea how it is done - not just in SU but in real life!
I guess there are various techniques - I would need one that was medieval. I am imagining flat tiles, perhaps slates, that essentially form a cone. Should the individual tiles get smaller nearer the tip? The number of tiles per revolution will obviously decrease as the circumference decreases, so how do you ensure that the gaps between tiles line up correctly?
Here is a photo like I describe... http://www.bostwickroofing.com/images/slate_tile2.jpg

Here is a good resource. We used the Spanish tiles on this project.
Click on tower tile and see some examples.
And when I say we used this tile I mean we specified this tile, the house was never built.
At least to my knowledge. I need to drive over there and check. -
Hi Solo, hi folks.
Here is a trick I was once given in the old SU forum:
When saving a multiple scenes tutorial, make sure that you save when viewing the first scene (usually Scene 1). This insure that the tutorial will open on the first scene instead of anyone including the last.
This also save the final punch for the rigth time
Just ideas.
