SketchUp Forum - Gone (Jul 07, 2007 )
-
Kris -- I don't think Todd was implying anything about content being lost. Just noting that the new Group isn't on-line yet.
Those forums being down may just relate to maintenance. Or it may be related to the planned move over to Groups. Maybe it is happening today.
Given the amount of time that has passed between the initial announcement of the intention to move and now, I'm hopeful that they've made a good effort to tune the pending Group's version to be a better user experience than the standard Groups format.

I haven't even been over there in all this time...
I'll wait to see how it goes and what I hear back here...
it's hard to get into it when, you don't know if it will be worth it...

I can't even find the new SU Pro forum now. At least there used to be a placeholder there...even if it did say Membership Pending. Now all that happens is that you go round and round inside the Google search engine.

..... the windmills of your mind Alan.
Its an odd feeling not getting a response when
I click the GSU Forums button But I
also think its maintenance as there would be
some kind of message left hanging on the doorMike

Gone ?
It seems to be online again; only missing are new postings.

It's still up, spluttering and fading slowly away like a terminally ill old relative.

Hi guys, the final migration is planned for 12 MST (U.S. Mountain Time) today, July 9th, and the old forums will be decommissioned then. I know, sadly this time has come.
I hope you'll stop by the Groups now and again to see the updates we're planning, and I sure do appreciate all of your contributions to the old forum. That's where I first met you all!
In the meantime, there will be a redirect from the old forum link to the new Groups link when the migration is complete, and I'm sure I'll see you all here.
Cheers,
- CraigD

Craig, my personal feeling is that it will never be like the old forum, but there is always hope. If it's open just like any newsgroup, bring on the spam!!

Hi Chuckles, I agree with you that it will not be like the old forums, good or bad. I'm hoping that spam will not be an issue.

New forums are ON NOW
(lost my bet:(http://groups.google.com/group/sketchup ... ups/topics

Well, as of now 48 members and 2 posts today.
And my membership is just pending... and pending...
Although I could find myself among the posts with the same Google ID I use (and I used the same email address and screen name in the Old Forums, too).Wel...

I'm "pending" too -- for the last 12 hours or so. What I find confusing is there is almost no explanation of this joining process. I'm not clear if my 'pending' status is for all the subgroups (as I'd like it to be) or will I end up having to make separate requests for each subgroup. I can imagine the signing up process will help limit spam -- that's a good thing. I wonder if the bigger reason for the signing up process relates to the requests from many that the new "Pro" groups keep out the imagined throngs of free GoogleSU users. Anyways, this signing up process is confusing because of a lack of information. I'm also surprised that Google haven't posted explanations in each subgroup about what has happened or is happening. As it is right now the migrated postings about the migration must be confusing to anyone who doesn't know what its all about. I'm sure there are now people who never saw the old forums, now showing up on the doorstep of the new groups.

all our secrets in the front line
well at least it seems nothing is lost. -
Still "Pending" days later, despite every combination of username/password between my login for the old forum and my login for the original 'free' group. It's not a lot of use if you can't contribute.

same here
-
That's weird, I set up a Google account yesterday, received my activation email and joined the SU group straight away.
Is it activating the Google account or joining the groups that's pending for you guys?

Joining the group. It doesn't make any difference whether I use my existing Google account for the free forum to apply for the Pro one, or whether I use my existing Pro details to try to log in. I can log in ok, but it still says I'm pending and can't post.
It doesn't look terribly inviting anyway. I'm close to just giving up. -
Alan, I had to cancel my subscription, and then re-up. That worked immediately.

I just cannot join.
I have a Google account with the same screen name and email address I used in the Old Forums. I want to join with that but it still say pending...
The funniest thing is that since all my old posts were transferred, I can find them, click on my profile there (next to my name in the thread) and see my existing Google profile with all the posts listed either in the (old) Pro forums or the Free SU GG Forums. So it's obviously me but I still cannot join.@unknownuser said:

How can I cancel my subscription if I haven't even subscribed at all (not joined)?
I don't want to cancel my Google account if that's what you mean - it would mena that I have to "re-do" all subscriptions for all those different services I already use.
-
I had to do the same
-first cancel everything-
start from 0input the same and it worked
