      OK, I downloaded it.

The leaves there are made up of two faces actually. Are you positioning the texture on one of the faces only? (actually you can only position a texture on one face at a time).

BTW heve you imported the image as a texture (or exploded after importing as an image)?

I created a new material from the Material Editor.
I them applied the texture to both the faces with the Bucket tool.
I then positioned the texture on each of the faces.

Well, I don't know. I had no problem at all. Positioned (probably not as nicely as you would like to), closed the components and here you go: just one leaf (you can reload it into your component if you are satisfied with it).

Note however that I only have SU 6.0.1099 (not the latest) version on my office computer. I'll check this at home in the afternoon. If it's like what you are experiencing, it's a nice find of a bug and can go to the Bug Reports forum.

          Could you also try this:

          • copy a leaf component from the tree model
          • open a new file, insert the component to the origin
          • explode, apply and position the material
          • make a new component (if this works), save it
          • and you can reload it into the original model.

hmm... and you did the same as I did?

my SU is 6.4.112. Pro version.

I'll have a look at the file you gave me later on the day. Need to finish something else first.

            Thanks for helping out.

              Yes I did the same.

At home I also have the same version as you do so I'll check there.

Just had a quick go at copying to a new file, exploding it. Then creating a component again. That worked! Got no idea why.

However, is there a way to replace all component instance with a new one?

                  Yeah.

First make sure that when you place your component in a new file, it axes are perfectly aligned with the current world axes (that's why I told to place it to the origin).

Then do the texturing, you don't even need to make it as a component just save as a file.

Now in your tree model, go to the depth until you can click on a leaf component (don't edit). Right click and choose "reload" from the context menu. It will pop up a dialogue, answer the question and navigate to your saved file. Select and reload.

Ah yes! That worked like a charm!

                    Export leaf component.
                    Open file.
                    Position Texture.
                    Reload component.
                    Bob's your uncle!

                    😍

                    You just made my day!

Now I just need a seamless birch bark texture....

Have a look at this thread in the Materials forum. I do remember having found nice bark textures somewhere (although cannot remember where exactly).

OK, now I went on with it a little bit at home. I created a png file with a transparent alpha mask and applied that on a single face (while deleting all the original geometry from the leaf component). Added the png file, also a jpg version and a clipmap with it (in case you'd like to render it).

The funniest thing is that it's just now very obvious that the leaves are just "thrown" around without being oriented with their stems towards the tree.

Whatever. I also noticed that while working with the tree file, the texture does actually shift (like in your example) but the reload command worked nicely.

                        Hm...

I had an older version at home. And the shifting happened there as well.
It also happened on the tree trunk itself.
I'm baffled by why this happens, as I've not had this problem before. I wonder if it could be related to geometry with hidden and/or soften lines? (Wildly guessing here. Only semi-relation I could think of.)

Yea, the tree leafs are thrown on very oddly. But I expect no-one would make a close up of such a low poly tree. I've used it though to test out the V-Ray render plugin, so I've added some more details to it. extruded the single line branches etc.

At least now I know that it wasn't just me doing something weird in SU.
I might try some more scenarios and see if I can track down the triggering factor for this behaviour and submit a bug report.

                          Thanks for your help.

Can't belive this thread is this old! Because I have just started to have this problem on textures shifting when double clicking on item. This happens on faceme items, specifically a tree I was editing to hide edges around leaves. This is a glitch that needs fixing.
