Rotating object.

This is off-topic, but did anyone else notice the red Protractor? Shouldn't it be blue?
Hm...

Hi Pagan,
You can always enter a number (degree) of rotation without needing to orbit anywhere. If it is still easier to do the orbiting, create a scene with the desired camera angle (update it if you want to modify it later) and no matter how and where you navigate in your model, you can always click onto the scene tab and it will take you back there.
You may also be interesten in RP Tools which is a set of "wizards" such as rotating. (Note that it is not free but there's a 30-day, fully functional trial period).
To achieve a "spinning" effect (such as in your attached image - provided you don't have any other geometry in your model) you can also use a circular camera path around the starship and keep every camera view focussed on the object. There is a plugin for this at Sustard's: FlightPath.rb. It will create scenes along the circular path and you can "zoom extent" at every scene, update the scene and finally export the whole thing as an animation.
Don't forget to set the scene delay to zero at Window > Model info > Animation if you want a smooth spinning.

Jim, not when you are angry and frustrated.
But you are right, it looks odd.Pagan,
Do you mean (with 45 degrees) that you want 8 scenes with the same camera location related to the model? This would mean another 7 rotated copies on the spot and for each scene 7 out of 8 in hidden layers.Or do you want 8 scenes at different locations with a copied camera settings?
Although this will also involve 7 rotated copies of the model, not necessarily in other (hidden) layers. You also need to copy the connecting line ‘camera-target’ 7 times. Then you should start with this line in scene1 and ajust it till you thing the view is rigth.You can copy/rotate your model any angle (here 45) and right after copying type 7* in VCB and hit enter.

[quote="Gaieus"]Hi Pagan,

HI!
But how,enter where? -
[quote="Wo3Dan"]
A just want have fix sceen view and rotate single object for take a image for gif or swf animation.
Jut to be accured in position when assambling for animation,not for making animation in sketch up. -
Have a look at the SU Guide here.
Go down to read about "entering precise values" into the VCB.
You can always just export 2d images from any of your scene tabs (after all animation is also a series of still images),

HI!
But how,enter where?Pagan,
Rotate the model in the right direction. It does not matter at what angle.
Now immediately type 30 and hit enter (look at the VCB right bottom of screen, it should be white to accept input). This 30 degrees will be the final rotation.Wo3Dan

Pagan,
b.t.w. You choose the right tool, the 'Move' tool to rotate.
This ensures you to rotate about the center. Dont use the 'Rotate' tool, it only makes it harder to rotate about the center.Jim, this gives you the red protractor instead of the blue one.

Ahha. Credits given to Wodan for this investigation (actually I1m aware of this component rotation method but have never used...)
(BTW - I cannot have SU open now since I have some other things to finish for deadline so I'm just saying things "by heart")
