I have created a building in SketchUp6 (free version), having worked on it for several weeks. Just recently I have been unable to load the file. I am informed by the system that it is not a sketchup file. The file now has a .skb extension. I have changed the extension to .skp to see if that would allow it to load - it didn't. My system has not crashed or undergone any changes.
I have attempted, with no success, to find a solution on the internet. There was a site that advertised the repair of a wide variety of files, sketchup included. When contacting the site I was informed that they are not equipped to repair .skp files "at this time".
As a freshman to this forum I would appreciate any direction anyone could give me.

The .skb extension is a backup file created by SketchUp. Changing the extension to .skp is the way they are opened but unfortunately you say that didn't work. The good news is typically files don't just disappear so your original skp file is probably still on your drive somewhere. Try a search and see if you can find it. On a Windows machine you can search for *.skp and it will find all the .skp files regardless of their names. Hopefully you can track your file down and it will still be good. The other good news it is quite rare to have a .skp file get corrupted.

      Regards, Ross

Rare indeed but it has happened to me and I've read some reports before. So I do keep backups of recent stages of my work.

Indeed a rare occurance with SU. Suggest in the future you take advantage of the "save a copy as" feature of SU. It makes copy with a numerical extension (eg. 01) and keeps you working in the original file. Make a keyboard shortcut to save time.

This may help with the .skb file that wont open...I did a save as on a .skb and changed the extension to .skp...then saved...It opened.
